That stamp genuinely used on cover is not common - which makes it very good! Picture isn't clear enough - I'm not convinced it is reperfed - but I find it very odd that both cancels seem perfectly aligned on the stamps & not tied to the cover at all?? |

I can't say whether or not these stamps originated on this cover, but it most likely would have had 27¢ in stamps. 27¢ is the correct rate via Belgium Closed Mail at this time (1863). |

Thanks all the cover came from a reliable source so I do think they do belong why would someone want to add them later? As the 24c stamp stands on its own what is the cat value? |

Excellent work Dutch - and great eyes! Clearly a reperf. How a reperf ended up being used on this cover is a mystery...
Not sure what your 'stands on its own' comment means, but the stamp by itself has a CV of app $375 from my several yrs old Scott specialized. On cover, the CV is $450. Of course, these values are for VF condition. But a great cover in any case... |

Wow thanks for the help and infos hopefully it will find a place in a collectors collecton. What stamp Cat number is the 3c Washington? |

The cat #s are likely 65 & 78 (3c & 24c respectively) but would need to be examined closely to determine for sure. For example, do they have grills.... |

The obvious question is "how could a reperforated stamp be on an original cover?" The answer is that it can't. So either it is not reperforated and is simply a few bent pins, or it is a fake cover. |

I doubt very much that the 24c stamp originated on this cover. I wouldn't be surprised if it also has other condition issues beyond the reperforating. In addition to that, it appears that an attempt was made in three separate places to add ink to the cover to make it appear as though the 3c stamp is tied.
The cover should probably be taken down, not promoted here on SCF. |

All I know is I got the cover from someone who had it in storage since 1980s so if its been tampered with that must have been done in the 1970s or earlier? But why would anyone fake it? |
