I've had this question on my mind for some time now. Has anyone ever proved the community wrong. Such as "I have this stamp. It's worth this much you guys know nothing". I know I have told people to send it to an expert if your so convinced. Personally I've never seen one that has. So has anyone ever seen someone that has actually come back with proof.

If it has been discussed in another thread please direct me to it. It's just one of those things that has bothered me for some time.

Most likely not. There are far too many great, knowledgeable specialist collectors that participate and monitor the SCF from around the world to correct an SCF contributor answering a question mistakenly. Some of the debates are very interesting and informative.

Happens rarely, most whom think they have rarities, say they will send them away, but we never hear again.

There is one, recently, of a US stamp of a variety of colour, if I recall, it was suggested by SCF to have it certified, it was, and proven correct, and sent to auction.
That's the best I can recall, but I found it rather exciting.
If someone can find the thread, well worth reading.

There is no discredit in being wrong, we all here offer opinions, that is all,
it is free advice, it is up to the owner, to take all necessary steps to qualify.
(send away for a certificate)

Let's put this way: to err is human. Assuming anything else would be foolish.

If something such as Wikipedia has got reliability score of only 60-90% (depending on topic and study), I would assume SCF to be somewhat less. As collectors (and sometimes experts) we have lots of opinions, but as Plato put it: opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance.

So enjoy what you read, but take it with pinch of salt

I am sure why you used the questions. Even expertizing groups get it wrong sometimes or maybe their opinion changes for various reasons. The opinions here often made with just an image. It is easy to offer an opinion and suspect most cases are people suspect something but it comes back clean rather than the other way

The community is constantly wrong.

Everyone here believes all folks who ask questions are rational, intelligent people.

Usually, everyone is wrong...

I tend to think that the community as a whole is pretty accurate in its opinions due to the depth and breadth of experience on here.

Individual opinions, on the other hand... I know of a couple occasions where I've rendered an opinion on here regarding forgeries only to have the item later receive a valid cert, and on the flip side, several times where I've had to tell someone with a cert that the cert is wrong. Nature of the opinion business, I guess.

I am sure that individual members of the SCF community have been wrong in their opinions or judgments regarding answers to discussion topics or viewer questions, but I suspect as a community SCF rarely provides a wrong, false or inaccurate answer to a question mostly do the Delphi method typically engaged to arrive at a final answer.

The Stamp Community is never wrong because it never gives opinions on stamps . But sometimes a member may give a individual opinion that is incorrect .
