Netherlands Antilles Fort Beekenberg June 16, 1953 Fort Beekenberg overlooks the Caracas Bay on the south coast of Curaçao. The stone structure was built in 1703 to protect the entrance to the Spaanse Water, a natural harbor. The fortress was armed with eight-pounder and twelve-pounder cannons in the 1800s and served as a military outpost until the mid 19th century.  |

The medieval fortress has a triangular outline and is encircled by 1.5 kilometers of stone walls with 25 towers. The stamp shows a view of the fortified manor at the northern end of the fortress.  |
