Scott 114 3c Train Stamp Asking Opinion On Price And Condition

Hello all,

I had the opportunity to purchase this Stamp for only 1 Euro ($1.13).
Is that a good price for this stamp?
What is your opinion on the condition of this stamp and its value?

This stamp has a Scott Catalog Value of $18 in 2011 (my latest catalog), and maybe a buck of two more or less currently. It is off center and has a badly pulled perf at bottom, so its actual value would be less than 10%V of SCV. I would say you paid about right for it. If you are interested in stamp collecting, or if this triggers that interest, then I'd say it was absolutely worth the price.

I buy lottery tix all the time, and they are usually a big, fat bust, but the 'entertainment' value of being in the game makes them worth it to me. I am still waiting for my 401-YAY(!) plan to come through for me. Enjoy your stamp.

The 114 is a popular stamp. The pictorial series of 1869 was the first set of regular issue stamps that weren't just pictures of famous people's faces. What you paid is fine. Because of the damage at the bottom it isn't worth much more. On ebay used 114s in sound condition bring $3-$10 or thereabouts. There is also some potential concern that the "hinge" or whatever is back there might be hiding something. But personally I'm a big fan of the locomotive issue. I have a few essays of this stamp that are colorful and I find entertaining.

Magnificent Gem purchased via USA 'Stamp Community'. A Die with issues.

The stamp has a 2 to 3 millimeter tear in the right margin extending to the right end of the border around "POSTAGE" in addition to the thin and hole in the bottom margin. Recent ebay sales:

The issues on the stamp above have nothing to do with the die, they happened because the paper got a crease in it before the stamp was printed.

Revcollector, respect your opinion but you need more time to examine CLOSELY. imo

All I see is a badly centered example from a worn plate with a pre-printing paper crease. Nothing that relates to the die at all.

Wkusau, 'Obvious creasing' BUT a detailed close examination reveals a LOT more 'if' time taken.
