While looking at the Siegel census for mint copies of Canada Scott/Unitrade # 1, there appears to only be 11 singles, 1 pair and 1 block of 4 which totals only 17 unused stamps. I didn't know that there were so few unused copies of this stamp. Should there be a panic? See: https://siegelauctions.com/display_...s.php?id=322

Robert, But is this just ones that Siegel auctioned? Wow, showing seven faulty. Now take a look at the first one shown and I believe you can safely assume it is faulty also, based on what I see it has apparently a crease from top to bottom. Mike Edit: corrected # |

Any idea how many were printed? If it's a tiny number, it may be understandable there aren't too many left. A comparison of the number issued and the number survived with U.S. #1, UK #1, and so on would be even more compelling. |

Well the 12pence #3 is the rarest at about 51,000 printed and only 1450 copies sold, according to stamp collecting world.
#1 beaver, I am sure it is many times more than that. I don't have my catalogue with me. |

jogil I would not worry too much whether there are only so many Scott ones available as below... I would pay more attention to these low issued stamps. Robert |

Robert, this is more about how many unused stamps are still around of the pence issue with laid paper rather than how many were originally issued. I was surprised to find so far that both unused Scott # 1 and # 2 are fewer in known number to exist than unused Scott # 3 even though unused Scott # 3 commands much higher prices. |

jogil...True
There are probably a few more out there than expected..Hoarding by private collectors, etc.
A friend of mine has a coupe of 12p and at least one on cover..They would be as rare or expensive as laid paper..Do you think..???

Robert, do you mean that he has a couple of Scott/Unitrade # 3? If one has the big money, one can usually get a copy of # 3. However, Canada Scott/Unitrade # 32 is currently for sale at Canada Stamp Finder. |

Wert, did you try borrowing them to do some flyspecking on them? I heard that there are many re-entries on them but very few people have ever seen multiple copies....Make sure your friend knows how to spell your name on his will.... |

Quote: did you try borrowing them to do some flyspecking on them? Never asked him...sad Had a chance to have his "map stamp" collection to go through, but turned it down, cause he has acquired the best couple of collections anywhere...HUGE collection (probably the best collection bar none)...Maybe latter.
