Hi, My e-mail says the USPS tracked mail was delivered to the mail box and it's not there! (some Bhutan stamps from a U.S. address) Has not happened to me before, can anything be helpful. It seems tracked mail is the same as regular mail! Thanks.

Give it another day or two in case it went to the wrong mailbox and then report it here:

Report it first to your local PO. They have tracking tools you can't access.

I've had to do it twice. The PO supervisor can tell by looking at the record whether the tracking points were recorded by a carrier or by a machine when received at the final PO prior to the carrier getting it.

I had this happen about a year ago. I asked my local carrier about it and he referred me to the local postmaster. The postmaster took my information and said he would call me back. When he called, he said that they knew exactly where my package had been delivered and would contact the people at that address. At first the people denied receiving it but the threat of the involvement of postal inspectors got them to admit that my package had been delivered to them and they handed over the contents to the PO and it was finally delivered to me.

I don't know how the PO knew exactly where my package was delivered but I thought that maybe the handheld scanner that they use to scan the package upon delivery is GPS enabled. This would work extremely well in my area as I live in a very rural area where the mailboxes are few and far between.

The time and sequential order of scans can help narrow down the where and when since the order of stops is constant.

I've had this happen more than once. Apparently my local Post Office has several dyslexic employees. In every case the item was delivered to the WRONG address !!!

From what my carrier told me once, the scanner they carry has GPS built in and they can actually track him and the route he is walking. So they should be able to tell where the item was delivered from that.

Last week the USPS 'Informed Delivery' notified me of a package for that day; later that day I watched as the mailman drove right past the house without stopping. I used the online notification system to tell the USPS about the missed delivery and got an immediate 'we will looking into it' automated response email. The parcel was delivered the next day but the interesting part was that I also received a phone call from the USPS following up on the missed delivery. While I am sure that I would have gotten the parcel the next day one way or the other, I was impressed that the 'system' worked and the USPS followed up.

Informed delivery also updates me within 5 minutes via email when a parcel hits my mailbox, so the mailmen do indeed feed information back in real-time from their routes.

Thanks for the help, it helps! It's no fun looking forward to something and then it's not there. I will report it today if it's not in the box! It is a rural box in a row, they used to have numbers and a letter, then they switched to the street address and the row of boxes is not in any order as it covers a few roads. It may be a bit messy! I want to get my box in front of my house now, as they drive by here now anyways. I wonder what that would entail? And thanks again for the help and very entertaining forum, that I will be more a part of when I don't have to work so much!

I happened to be out by the road today picking up some garbage that some inconsiderate fool had thrown out when the mailman drove up to put my mail in my box. With this thread in mind, I asked him if his scanner was GPS enabled and he said that it was.

Submitted a USPS search request! Wait and see? Don't want to get upset,(over$250.00) a good sized order for me. An E-bay purchase, they sent tracked and post says it was delivered, I have not advised them of the trouble yet, not sure what the responsibilities are? I am sure I want those stamps though!

Yesterday one of my good customers called me and was upset that tracking showed an Alert; her package had been diverted from North Las Vegas to Indian Springs because of an address or Zip code problem. I send something to this customer nearly every week and use the ebay labels so it seemed unlikely the address was wrong.

I live in a very small Fl village and we know the Postmaster we even know her dog so I thought maybe Indian Springs was a small PO too. I googled Indian Springs and found a phone # and called. A nice woman answered and I told her the problem. She asked who the package was addressed to and she said "oh yeah we have Mary's package, the address is fine I don't know what they're smokin down in LV. It'll get there tomorrow." and it did. I love small town USA!
