A hunt on Google for 'Ultramar 1875' found that it is a stamp from the Ultramar set of 1875 (Gee, who would have thought) from Cuba, Scott #65, part of a 4 stamp set, this is the 3rd highest value. Picture is the coat of arms of Spain in the center, the wreath (?) around is from Cuba's coat of arms, the word ultramar is Spanish for overseas, and the castles crown probably mean colonies as Portugal had a similar crown of castles on it's colony's coat's of arms. Spanish Coat of Arms: Cuban coat or arms: |

nic, Sorry I forgot to subscribe to this thread. so I missed your question. I do not have a worldwide catalog. Just Canada and a concise Great Britain. I can check it at the library when I get there next, there is a new Scott there. All that info I got from googling the internet. I saw the set of four Ultramar shown listed on a private web site for sale and they used Scott numbers. Then, knowing the number, I looked on ebay and found one with the seller telling the date of it. ahem, ahem, (clearing throat, while looking ashamed) I should have consulted a respected source for confirmed information, you are correct to question. I am so used to finding stuff that way that I didn't think twice. |

nic,
These were, indeed, issued in 1875. The year before depicted a seated allegory of Spain, and the year after featured Alfonso XII. Without damage, it would be a little bit better than catalog minimum. |

Found this great identifier. It is not copyright so free to distribute. In Adobe Acrobat pdf file format so you can add to it or print it out. http://www.shoeboxstamps.com/stampid.pdfFrom the identifier: ULTRAMAR (with a year date): Cuba (1873-6), Puerto Rico (1867-76) [Beyond the Sea]. ULTRAMAR (with a year date, denominations in Avos): Macao (1911) [Beyond the Sea]. ULTRAMAR (with a year date, denominations in Reis): Portuguese Guinea, war tax stamps (1919) [Beyond the Sea]. Cuna Scott 63-66 |

Puzzler: That's a nice document; I saved a copy to my harddrive. Thanks for sharing. But I have to mention the irony on the title page. Did you notice they mention cleaning up the spelling errors right under the word COPYRITE Thanks Again, KirkS |

Only good pictures of each stamp will allow someone to estimate their value. |
