Understood and agreed, emotional purchasing decisions are not as good as non-emotional buying decisions. In fact, this is probably a truism for all of life; I cannot recall a good emotional decision that I have ever made. (If there was, it was luck.) My concern is one where online purchasing is adding extra decision influence 'baggage'. The ease and convenience of online buying facilitates buying without thinking. And of course there is the ebay brainwashing of people that it is perfectly fine to buy things sight-unseen and from an unknown person half way around the planet.

I love technology and I love what the internet has done for our world. But just like capitalism, it is not all 'upside', this stuff has some potential pitfalls that require us to rethink some of our behaviors. We have to think this stuff through before we implement, not after and then try to clean up the new mess that has been made.

All of the "above" said; what if buying some higher-end (and I know that term "higher-end" is relative) stuff was just simply as advertised? Yes, we all know it is not, but what really isn't either?

One day when I'm king it will be. (Pigs will fly and drop hundred dollar bills randomly from the sky when that happens; so therefore a 0% chance, but one can dream!)

I'll be sending said 120 off for a cert; and need some advice on that, but that will be in a different forum.

Rogdcam, I do drink and buy! But only when filling stuff like 1994 booklet singles. Just have to be judicious about "ebaying" and a couple of nice chocolate porters. Sound advice though!

Two of the top APS designated World Series of Philately (WSP) shows, WESTPEX and NAPEX, are in hotels with conveniently located bars steps from the show floor.

I would think that most do, or have one or more within the facility. The Itasca Westin, where CHICAGOPEX is held every year, has a bar in the lobby and the main restaurant also serves alcohol. Don't even need to step outside to get your drink on!

In my opinion stamp collectors contemplating serious purchases at stamp shows would show more discretion than gamblers who are given free drinks to dull their judgement at the slots or card tables.

I miss the good old days, when WESTPEX was still at the Cathedral Hill Hotel and I could have a sandwich and a nice imported beer at Tommy's Joynt right across the street. But now WESTPEX is in Burlingame, the Cathedral Hill no longer exists, and the beer selection at Tommy's Joynt is just a shadow of what it used to be.
