While I'll grant you that these are extremely scarce and very desirable, I'm pretty sure this seller is cloud surfing if he thinks someone will pay this price.

You could buy more than a dozen of the original Jennys for that!

His stamp prices in general are pretty ridiculous.

Seriously though, How does this happen? In 2013 that center should not be inverted at all.

This happened in 2013 because the USPS deliberately created 100 panes with the planes NOT inverted. The 100 "uninverts" were then supposedly distributed at random to POs throughout the U.S. Many collectors were subsequently seduced into playing the "philatelic lottery".

If you scroll down his listing he weaves quite a phantasmagorical pricing story. And no best offer to boot.

A billionaire ebay member wanders along one fine day with six million dollars burning a hole in their pocket and sees the listing and thinks to themselves "hey, this looks intriguing". They read the description and see the tremendous upside to this opportunity and without so much as a quick Google search to see what folks have paid previously they press the Buy It Now button linked to their Plutonium AE card and SHAZAM they own an amazing piece of not just philatelic history but American history. It arrives a week later at their Summer place on Nantucket and they organize a dinner party with an upside down airplane theme for a hundred of their closest friends each of whom are suitably impressed and also want one. Crazy seller? Crazy like a fox.

I must admit that, misled by the full stop for the comma in the title, I'd been reading this as on sale at $6,000, rather than $6 million, and had been thinking "that's a lot for philatelic tosh" even at that price.

I purchased 3-inverted sheets (looking for the un-inverted) and all these had a significant number of areas showing printing defects, such as bleeds, broken lines, in both the blue & red printing. I also remember that several of the un-inverts were broken up by dealers & put up for sale, singles for 5-digit figures. Would someone have a photo of one of the early finds (un-invert) which would show the same crisp, w/o defect printing to compare this with.? If the un-inverts were printed in the same process & with significant upgrade to quality control I could see this happening, but still I believe based on the process that there might be some 'minor' flaws in the final product?

These have been selling for around $50,000, so if you want one shop around and save $5,950,000.
