Removing A Showgard Mount From An Album Page.

TBH, for hinging mounts to album pages, there's nothing wrong with using regular modern Prinz hinges at $3 a pack; no need to use the silly expensive Dennisons. Probably even cheaper than the removable tape.

I will also say that I've found stamps mounted with removable tape in collections I've purchased in the past, and while it usually does not leave a residue that is visible to the naked eye when removed, under UV light you may see a mark. The residue can be wiped off to some extent, but that's no guarantee that it completely goes away. If that residue yellows or degrades with time it could be a problem.

I wonder if any mount-manufacturer has developed a removable stamp mount? I ask not only because it would be a great idea, but also because a few times I've been able to remove mounts very easily with no mark left on the album page. I've always assumed this was because the user only lightly moistened a small part of the mount. But since nearly all were clear mounts (not black-backed mounts), I've wondered if there was a brand of removable mounts I hadn't heard about?

On the other hand, maybe removable (and therefore perhaps reusable) mounts would earn a company less money so they wouldn't be interested?

Davo sells no-lick or self-adhesive stamp mounts, and I wonder if they can be removed easily? Or maybe someone just needs to sell a decent glue which is removable that can be applied to the back of a stamp mount? Rubber cement? What do people put on the back of used mounts they're reusing? Could you use a glue stick?

As for double-sided, removable, self-adhesive tape mentioned earlier, I would think that might be fine on mounts. I'd be very reluctant to use it directly on stamps or covers, but the mounts are plastic so the glue seems unlikely to affect them or the stamps in them. Or am I missing something?

I see some experimenting opportunities here, my friends. Maybe a nice little research project?

Mounts are fairly easily removed from the page if you've used a dab from a glue stick, although you need to accept that they won't be as firmly held. I don't moisten mounts.

I have had good success using a Scotty Peeler (metal, not the plastic one). With some practice it does minimal or no damage to the album page and the mount is usually in good enough condition to be reused. The Peeler is also good for removing hinge remnants from pages.
