This cover was sent from France, but is not french in origin. Signs in corners resemble Nato sign. Nice canadian cover with white clouds and planes all over background design. |

Does this qualify as an air mail cover? C. Lakehurst, New Jersey. May 6, 1937. Mulheim, Germany, via Frankfurt,, Lakehurst, N.J., New York, N.Y. to Forest Hills, Penn. Recovered from wreckage of the Hindenburg airship. Postal officials salvaged approximately 358 pieces from the 17,609 estimated pieces of mail on the flight. Of these, 179 were damaged. Mail was sent to the postmaster in New York City who attempted deliver of as many pieces as possible. |

Hi Chip. Of course that is a very nice airmail cover, but I am not sure I am seeing an airmail design printed on the envelope itself. Can you make out such a preprinted design on the envelope? |

I have always liked the airmail envelopes given away by Panair which is the Brazilian subsidiary of Pan Am Airways. These happen to be used on first flights, but the envelopes were used generally by passengers, customers and the public who were sending their mail on regular Panair of Brazil provided service. The preprinted designs are the VIA AEREA in the rectangle at the upper left, the read line across the envelope just above half-way, the great image of the aircraft and a steward and line of passengers at the lower left, and the VIA PANAIR or PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS SYSTEM at the bottom right or along the bottom edge. And, if you look closely there is a light overall design of the Pan Am Airways logo of the winged globe printed all over the envelopes as a background design. |
