Guinea Bissau chose the boreal owl (Aegolius funereus) for one of its stamps on wildlife although this endangered species is not found as far south as Guinea Bissau. It's a small owl, so the relative size of the mouse is fairly accurate. (Hi Alexey, Schnüffel, the investigator, and Pieps, his secretary were quite popular on a program for children during the 1970s. See also page 7. stamp of 1972 K.) |

Last week's riddle showed two genuses of owls which are both skilled hunters of mice Strix and Tyto; what kind of mice they are, I don't know. 2013 |

Another example of a rat in a hopeless situation. Pythons are good hunters of mice and rats, strangling them to death before swallowing them whole, head first. Laos 1984. Pythons are among the world's largest snakes, so this one is probably still a youngster. |

A hunter of mice, primarily at night, is the barn owl Tyto alba. This Cuban owl seems to be out during the day and the mouse is a most unusual one, perching on an exposed branch! Cuba 2019 (Vayolene; A pot of gold for the new year! WOW!) |

Way back on page 1 the Swiss mice of Ulli Stein can be seen. This is an example of his cheerful mice for a stamp of Germany (wearing the national colors); the plus 40 cents is in support of sports, 2014. |

The happy mouse sailing with a sail on which he has even painted some holes to make it look like a slice of cheese is the Ulli Stein stamp of 2013. 90 cents is the rate for normal international letters, 40 cents again for sports. |
