Dan..That is normal
They will contact you...Be patient.

My contact is personal, so can't divulge her name..She actually goes to the vault and pulls out sheets, etc. for me.

Hope they do the same for you.

Robert

Just a follow up.

The Library and Archives Canada responded to my inquiry:

"I was able to photograph the front and back of our 100 stamp plate proof. Please find the images attached. I'm afraid that the inscriptions appear to be modern ones made by curators and/or archivists for cataloguing purposes, rather than the printers or the Post Office Department.

Unfortunately, our luck was about the same with my colleague who works with private collectors; he wasn't able to provide any further information.

In spite of this news, I wish you all the best in your research! Thank you again for contacting Library and Archives Canada with your question."

The work they did to research my request was impressive! It's not something one would expect from a US government office.

My question remains a mystery although it looks more likely to be a collector's notation.

Dan

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

Dan: you are mistaken about what a US government employee or for that matter a research historian will do for you if you catch them on the right day or pose a question that sparks their curiosity.
I have had extraordinary replies from the research historian of the US postal service regarding an 1881 presidential removal from office and appointment of another by President James Garfield in 1881, a detailed report from Riggs bank in Washington DC regarding the format of Garfields checks, advanced research on a 1774 College of New Jersey diploma and its recipient, and the same for a 1790 College of Philadelphia diploma.

funcitypapa,

My comment wasn't intended to disparage US government workers. I know many who are hard working and diligent in their jobs.

Because of the volume of requests and internal procedures and processes, it's not always easy to obtain the desired information unless as you say, "catch them on the right day or pose a question that sparks their curiosity".

I was impressed at their response from someone who wasn't even a Canadian citizen.
