Hoosierboy,
Here's another attempt to compare the 1942 Story cover with the 1945 May 8 Stanley cover:

The 1942 vs. 1945 comparison is on the right. This lines up closer than the image I posted easier. I don't know if there is a better way of doing these overlays or not, but in trying to line them up there is both the angle of rotation and the vertical/horizontal positions at play, and getting both of those two parameters right seems to be a matter of pure trial and error.
The image on the left overlays the Stanley 1945 and Stanley 1944 postmarks. A couple of posts back, I show an overlay of the Stanley 1944 and Story 1942 postmarks that line up pretty well. So we've got 1944 looking like the same device used in 1942, and 1945 looking like the same device used in 1944, ergo that's another line of evidence that seems to indicate the same device from 1942 to 1945. I'm going to create an image that joins all of this evidence together in one image.
Thanks for the dialog, and input.
In any case, with this latest, I'm back to thinking that the Story 1942 cover and the Stanley 1945 cover were struck with the same device, with any variations due to the age difference, and to the human factor that creates differences when the same device is used to strike a cover one right after the other.
