Thanks for putting me on the right track. It looks to be 45L4 or 49L4 then?

I want to say that the horizontal scratch at LR of 45L4 angles down slightly lower at the right than the one on your stamp which appears almost horizontal. I am looking at the 1c plating archive example. What do you think?

edit: 49L4 might be a better match - looks like a pretty good match actually.

Yea, I saw they directed me to 49L4 and it is a better match than 45L4. Here is 49L4 from the achive. That would make it a type IIc?

So Neinken lists 49L4 as always being a Ic, and not a swing position. That works in your favor, as you might get a cert for this being a Ic .. probably, as a result.

Its a close call, particularly so at the right outer plume line ... maybe doesn't extend down far enough ... but its very close, also the bottom line is weak (partially gone?).

I'm not going to spend any more time deciding on the Type, but instead will refer you to my Ic diatribe here, on how much I "love"(not) evaluating Ic's (it goes on for a page or two ):

Here is one of my favorite pieces. A strip of three with a huge corner margin. Margins are so big that (at least when I first looked at it) you might be mistaken in thinking it is a strip of 3 on piece.

That's a beautiful strip of three with nice, unobtrusive handstamps, mootermutt987. 1 to 3L5L, if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for showing it.

That is a nice strip.
Its almost a good thing that its close at bottom as that might help prevent it from being broken up in the future.

Agree with others that that 1-3L5L strip is a gem of the first order! Color -- at least on my monitor -- looks like a gorgeous 1857 claret at the deeper end of the scale.

If not too much trouble -- would you be kind enough to post up a 1200 dpi scan that we could download for plating reference purposes? I know that in the past, Don has offered to assist in this regard -- as the file size would surely far exceed the 300kb SCF limit.

I keep my stamps in the bank, so access is somewhat limited. Last week, I went to the bank, grabbed a bunch that had not yet been scanned, scanned them (all under 300k), then returned them for safe keeping. Sooooo..... I don't have that strip available right now to re-scan. Having said that, my scanner only goes to 600 dpi, anyway.

Yes, the color of the stamps in the strip is really that 'odd'. When I first saw the strip online before buying it, I ASSUMED it was the scan, but it isn't. Just another attribute that makes this item stand out. I will grab and rescan it on my next trip to the bank, It will likely be a few weeks.
