That is a great example of the plate scratch on your 38L1L -- surely an early impression from plate 1 Late with all of the finely engraved lines showing very clearly. Nice stamp!

Ioagoa, you might get a kick out of this plate 27L1L stamp that mimics the scratch in oval of the 27L2L stamp.

I checked out your 27L1L thread from back in August 2018 -- and also interesting to see your 27L2L posted along with the 27L1L in this thread. How coincidental that the stray ink mark on the 27L1L just happened to impinge into the white oval like it did -- I mean -- what are the chances of that. Thanks for showing these.

#11 from sheet position 5L7 with nice margins all around.

The annotations on the back don't look like Card's or Celler's. Anyone know who the plater was?

Could it be Dr Charles DiComo? "Dr. C."

Hi classic coins --

The plate mark on your 5L7 is Bill Hicks -- one of the well known platers of the Chase era.

The "Dr. C' notation was generally made by Hicks when he would send a cover to Dr. Chase for plating. Then once Hicks soaked off the stamp, he would note the plate position and annotate "Dr. C" to indicate that Chase had plated it for him.

Dr. DiComo includes his three initials with his annotations.

ioagoa, I think that's pretty incredible.

Position 39L1L has one line recut in the lower-right triangle. It also has a consistent dot on top of the upper-left diamond block that I don't recall being identified.

Chase wrote on the Smithsonian print that the left inner line was not recut at this position, but it looks lightly recut to me. The vertically compressed image below seems to indicate (to me) that it was recut.

The right inner line has a big curve!

This thread moves so fast and furious...,I'm still looking at the backs of some of my stamps for Dr. C. notations LOL
