Description from Michel catalogue. There are 2 types of overprint. 1 With dent in R 2 No dent in R. Type 2 can be found on position/field 3 or 15 in part of the produced sheets. Type 2 has a catalogue value of 10 to 20 times that of a type 1. Be aware of fakes as the dent can easily be filled in. |

Ken --- The answer would be 110 years ago ,A stamp collector would look at the stamp being offered for $2.00 from a seller and check his catalog and see that it catalogs for $20.00 ,so thinking it is a deal . Here is the catalog {the stamp on the right of my scan looks just like the stamp I circled in orange ink }. What a deal, picture matchs close enough . |

Should of added that is a Scott's Catalog from 1902 ,to check your stamps 110 years ago you had drawings to compare stamps so forgers just had to get close enough ,not like today were a scan is possible to compare the actual stamp . |

Going back to the Swiss Stamps I'm confused are you saying the stamp on the left or the right is the forgery (or both)? |

They are all forgeries ,the one on the left is the nice's forgery and the hardest to declare a forgery . |

Working on this yesterday while bidding at Kelleher stamp auctions . As discussed by Don and others here that a scanner or computer really doesn't pick up the true colors that we see in clear daylight . Here it looks like I got the shades in the wrong place on a computer screen ,when in fact in daylight it tells a different story . |

Paul, the scanner software does some color balancing as it scans, and the blue is what is likely throwing the browns off. Try a neutral color for the labels and rescan and I bet the browns will look closer to correct. |
