By the way, Welcome nigelc!

Question, if on the genuine stamp the control mark is always centered left then why is it centered right on your genuine one? Or am I missing something? (I know barely nothing about Greece / Crete.)

I just had a second look see. maybe you meant centered within the control mark's surrounding circle and not on the stamp design?

Hi Puzzler. You're correct. I meant that in the genuine control mark the eagle is centred to the left within the circle.

Per Varro Tyler, the little circle in the teardrop design is quite open at the bottom in the forgery where the genuine is closed. So yours is a forgery, I'm afraid, probably the Fournier effort produced by the printers of the real stamp(!) Also noted is a forgery in perf 11 1/4 with the same characteristic.
