For the next few days I shall be concentrating on varieties of the 1d denomination which are not listed in ACSC.

This stamp is on Electro VI, position 27. This is a reentry which first appeared in 1926 and continued to the final green 1d - BW 82.

The reentry has caused of the top shading lines and a widening of the white border above them. The detail image below compares this variety to the normal.

Another 1d variety not listed in ACSC, this time o Electo III, position 31.

In this case, the final A of AUSTRALIA is distorted and is connected to the preceding I. This variety is also present with the distortion of the A not actually in contact with the I.

This variety first appeared in 1928 and existed to the final 1d value, BW 82.

This BW82 (SG 125) is from Electro II, Position 60.

In 1914, this variety showed a slight bulge in the upper frame. In June 1928, either by further damage or due to a retouch for reasons unknown, the Y in PENNY became distorted and the shading to the left and below the right value tablet became thinned. It remained in this state for the rest of the 1d green's life.

The example below is the is from the final issue, BW 82, and exhibits all three of the variety's characteristics.

The last one for today is from Pane VIII, Position 29. This variety consists of a spur on the top of the second A of Australia and exists only in the final issue of the 1d green, BW 82 (SG125). It first appeared in 1936 so was only present for about one year.

This is the 1d, Electro III, Position 14 where there is a break in a shading line to the right of the emu's leg, about half way up. The variety was first noted in 1937 in the final days of the stamp. (The replacement Queen Elizabeth 1d was issued on 10 May 1937.) This specimen is BW 82, watermark Crown/CofA. The stamp is part of a pair with a 13 October 1937 postmark.

And , for a change, here are some 1d reds.

This is from Pane V, position 26, with a nick in the top frame, close to the right corner. Exists from May 1915 to the stamp's replacement in 1937.

The example shown is BW 71 (SG 21c).

And here is the 1d from Pane VII, position 4, with a colour flaw just above and to the right of the cross on the top of the crown. First seen in December 1914 (The first 1d sideface was issued on 17 July 1914) and was present until the 1d green was replaced in 1937.

The example shown is BW 71 (SG21c).

I judge this variety on a BW 81 1d green to be Pane VI, Position 14. It is very reportedly similar varieties in on this pane in positions 12 and 26, for which I do not have copies. The variety consists of the left border to extend outwards (overhang) as it approaches the top corner.

This variety existed from May 1915 to the final printing.

This variety, shown on a BW 77(3)r 1d green, is on Pane VI, Position 55, and consists of a white bar in the coloured right frame level with the emu's foot. First appearing in September 1916 it was retouched in 1935. and thus does not appear in this form in the final 1d denomination. It would be most welcome if someone could post an image of the retouched position VI/55.

My reading of this one is that it is BW 88(11)h. The description of the variety is "Letters EE of THREE and A of HALF filled in". Below, in addition to the image of the complete stamp, I have included close-ups of area in questions as well as images of the corresponding area in a normal stamp and the illustration of the variety from ACSC. On my example, the A matches the ACSC ilustration down to its shortened legs. My Es are, however, not completely filled in But neither is the last E in the ACSC image.

The (11)h variety is in Electro 11, Right Pane, Position 2 and exists on BW 85 to 88.
