Canadian Stamp News (CSN) had an article on these stamps in the January 5-18, 2021 issue (Volume 45, Number 19) on page 8.

Only Picture Postage(tm) stamps created by Canada Post, and sold to collectors in mint (unused) condition through Canada Post outlets ..." are listed.

This "Thanks Merci!" stamp does not meet this criteria. It was not sold by Canada Post to the general public at Canada Post outlets, just like thousands and thousands of other Picture Postage designs created for individuals and other companies.

Would not the above criteria also affect stamps such as Unitrade 1534ii and 1535ii?

Jogil: you are comparing apples to oranges. There is no similarity between these items.

The Christmas stamps you are referring to have been discussed already. I am not going to rehash this yet again.

Love Robin as much as I do, I agree with jogil. The stolen unissued Christmas stamps should not be listed in Unitrade. Nor should the 1˘ Gentians (#705 & 781) which were privately overprinted and say right on the selvage "Do not use for postage". Curiously, not ALL the overprints are listed, especially the inappropriate ones about Trudeau.

I will not reproduce them here, but they were offered by Ian Kimmerly on ebay a while back as Unitrade #705iv.

sak:

There are several items throughout the modern issues that have a footnote saying something like "These listings will likely be removed in a future edition." (this quote is from the footnote under 705).

One of these years I really should get around to doing that (i.e. removing certain listings that have been around for years and years and really shouldn't have been listed in the first place).

I have a number of items on the "2022 to do" list; your comment reminded me to include this topic on that list. Thanks!

Robin Harris

Just wondering if these have a steady, published cat value yet or are people just paying whatever is asked?

Sadly I see, in rereading this topic, Robin Harris has not fulfilled his promise to remove the stamps from Unitrade 2022 that do not meet his own criteria for inclusion [see above]. We still have the stolen 1994 Christmas issue (1534-35i) and the 1977 Gentian private overprints (705iii/v) although he did manage previously to remove the Trudeau slur (705iv). Although he has removed the 1979 Gentian overprint (781ii), curiously, the latter issue is still referenced under the 705 listing.

There is no doubt in my mind that this "Thank you" booklet should be listed. Mr. Harris should simply modify his criteria to include it as #PP13.
Although the ebay market seems to have dried up, there was a mind-boggling range of prices realized.

I believe, however, that Robin Harris should be highly congratulated for his excellent service to Canadian stamp collectors. These suggestions, if followed, will simply make his work even better!
