This 6.50 franc value of Belgium is from the October 16, 1976 four-stamp 'Cultural Anniversaries' set. Stamp shows a detail from Dutch Renaissance artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder's (ca. 1525-1569) painting Parable of the Blind (1568).

From pieterbruegel.org, "It is a Biblical parable from the Gospel of Matthew 15:14: 'Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

Here is Belgium's March 24, 1984 12 franc stamp commemorating the 25th anniversary of 'Movement Without a Name'. Unfortunately, an internet search proved fruitless in determining exactly what the movement is. My guess is that it is a nationalistic movement, putting state above linguistic/ethnic interests.

This stamp has an earlier VIRTON postmark than my previous posting. There is no city code on the cancel, and the cancelling device has obviously been damaged.

Virton (pop. 11,323) is a Walloon city near the border with France. It is the largest town in the country's Belgian Lorraine region of the southwest.
