Looks like some good collections there - including a number of Mongolia lots - wonder how crazy the bidding will be on those?

Funny how much Mongolian material has found it's way to market in this auction after the last results. A must watch this time around as well.

Actually I doubt I will end up with anything because the bidding is way too crazy as of late. Fun to watch others drain their wallets though. Reminds me a bit of demolition derby.

Not sure I'll pick up anything either but will follow the bidding to see what its like - fully stocked up recently and there's a Sparks auction a couple days later where I see a couple collections I like.

But who knows - maybe I'll develop a sudden desire to specialize in Mongolia and blow the entire year's budget :)

Agree with Rogdcam. Besides a couple larger lots at a reasonable cost the past few weeks, been picking up smaller lots here and there while watching large collections that I'd be interested in, going for 50%+ of catalog at the big houses. Don't know who's buying it and how the heck they're making any money (if they're sellers).

Summer will be here soon and we just may get a little lull in the frenzy. We'll see.

I've become very excited about selling everything I have. Starting fresh with no "l'll get to that when I retire" projects in my drawers and on my shelves.

Is it best to call Keleher? Another auction house? I have a decent collection of Sweden. Some Blues with some completed countries.

May I ask which eras of Mongolian stamps have been hot sellers or is that too hard to summarize? Thanks.

Casey - these are all subtle references to a recent auction where a collection of Mongolian modern stamps (estimate around $1500-$2000) sold for over US $80k. I think it was a Rasdale sale.

Of course I could be wrong and Mongolia is the "new black" in the stamp collecting world.

No offense, prices down today ended up winning all my bids.

I believe the Mongolian stamps that sold for those high prices were MNH COMPLETE SETS and that it included IMPERF MNH stuff that was rare to begin with . That was not the common C-T-O stuff that you find in thousands of collections or all over the internet .

To answer the question about "TIME TO SELL" the answer is "where did you buy it at " I find it interesting because we had three or four periods of prices running up over the last 25 years .

There was a period back in the 1990's when you could load up the back of a suv or truck for a few hundred dollars and get 15 or 20 large boxes of stamps at a auction firm . Today for the same price your walking out with one box .Yes there was a time when nobody but one or two people were bidding and buying bulk lots and collections of albums .

Yes, the Mongolia was imperf sheets and other unusual stuff. Certainly not what you'll find in the old Statesman album in the attic.
