The unissued "newspaper" stamp will go well with my 1942 unlisted in Scott "radio stamp. I am showing the set of which I have a block of 6 of the green stamp.

No. Not a genuine stamp. Flat, dull, no detail. Lines would be sharpe, clear distinct. Dark ares of robes, dog, saddle and person more like a blob here. There would be some white details. The cloud and the sky lines would be very distinct and the mountain lines especially would appear like recessed and raised alternating. Every forged stamp I have seen so far for several issues is of this exact style or printing method. The stamp should pop out 3d like. Recessed I believe.

Picked up three overprint stamps too inexpensively in a Cherrystone auction. Two high dollar "used" violet overprint stamps Sc 21 and Sc 22. It's sad to be used. Also the ultimate MNH black overprint Sc 21a signed by Richter, Dr.P.Jemchouhin and Peter Holcombe. Bidding wars over some pre 1959 stamps but muted action over genuine scarce to rare early overprints (POSTAGE)

I saw those at auction and I was going to mention it in this thread but work got the best of me last week. Some really interesting stamps and a lot of material on the market recently. I have been buying a few MNH sets lately that I'm missing but I haven't added any early Mongolia early since my last posting. I realized I still need Scott 44 to complete my set and plan to pick one up the next time I see it. I still want the $1500 $1 overprint Michel 14a with cert on ebay but I just can't justify the price.

I have looked at some forgeries and thought about getting them as reference materials but most of them are priced as though they are real. Never a shortage of them listed on ebay :)

Hi Jackie. You can pick up a nice copy of Sc 44 for $95 from Loral Stamps(Leon). MLH. No hinge remnant. Stamp pictured is not necessarily what you will receive so ask first. He usually has more copies and is very easy on returns and exchanges. However, the overprints on the site are all fakes. He is a Russia expert, old school, honest but when it comes to Mongolia he takes the P.T. Barnum approach. Worth a try but keep it real.

Thanks Randy, I'll take a look at it. Congrats on the auction pickups. Most dealers take the PT Barnum approach for Mongolia. I see Loral has Scott 181, that's a cheap stamp you don't see often for some reason.

I agree. The stamp shown by Loral would be a worthy addition to a collection.

Randy,

So I went to Loral stamps and found a nice copy of Mongolia 44. Added 181 as well. Went to purchase and shipping was $20. That seems a little high to me for two stamps and it's labeled "standard" shipping. Have you purchased from him and if so, was your purchase sent priority, well packed, etc, in other words, worth the shipping? I've bought a lot of stamps from various dealers and auction houses and this is the highest I've seen shipping for a small order. I took off Scott 181 to see if it made a difference (1 stamp and then under $100) and then did the opposite (just Scott 181 for $10) but it seems $20 is his standard shipping fee. That's 20% for shipping for Scott 44 or 200% in shipping fees for Scott 181. While I like the stamp, I will probably wait for another one, either at a show or on ebay. They appear every once in a while.

Jackie

Hi Paul - I can answer the Loral shipping query. Leon's website has issues. Shipping is $7 via Priority. He will credit the difference when he processes your payment. I had the same response when I first started dealing with him.

Thanks, I have a few bucks burning a hole in my pocket to buy stamps, I was going to buy some Liechtenstein ones instead, now I may go back and purchase the Mongolia ones. I did a little digging on Loral and there are mixed reviews on his communication style and his website in general, but nothing that would make me stay away from him.

Yes, Leon is old school and also just plain old. LOL His email comm's are hit or miss but I have dealt with him for some time now and he is fair and knowledgeable.
