bump.

I thought this was kind of interesting, coming from showpiece -

we've made the strategic decision not to launch further assets and will instead explore suitable offers for our existing collection. In the event of a serious offer for any items you own, you will still be asked to vote on the outcome.

Quote:
- Why is Showpiece not launching more items

The only commercially viable option we could identify, limited ownership to high-net-worth individuals. This contradicted our desire to make ownership universally available; therefore, we decided not to pursue additional offerings.

- Is Showpiece Technologies Limited closing down

No, the limited company is not shutting down; we are exiting the assets we manage and will not be launching any more. Showpiece will remain as the trustee.

Quote:
- Are the items insured and protected?

Yes, the pieces are fully insured. The 1c Magenta, Edward VIII Penny, Warhol RQ and Darwin Origin of Species are stored in a vault in central London. Banksy's Valentine's Day Mascara is on display in Margate at the Wonder Works.

Is anyone surprised?

It was gimmick from the start.

I found a liquidators report on Stanley Gibbons Group but do not understand what it really means other than creditors getting nothing; Are the current assets in some other financial group escape liquidating all owned material. I realize the 1c Magneta is outside the SG mess.

The assets appear to have been transferred to Stanley Gibbons Baldwins Limited, 399, Strand, London. Nature of business- Retail sale of antiques including antique books in stores, and also book publishing. Phoenix SG Ltd, the majority shareholder in the original SG firm, appear to control this firm through Castelnau Group of Guernsey ("We compound shareholders' capital at high rates of return") Apparently it's not legal for US citizens to view Castelnau's website.

Let me get this straight they buy the stamp for $8.3 million and hold it for 15 years and then sell it for $15.0 million . Then S.G. charges fee for all kinds of garbage like security fee,,legal fees handling fees , storage fees and exhibit fees . So the courts back them up, all the $8 million in fee .

So all the small part owners get less back on investment after 15 years .........while almost a double value of the asset .Sounds like something I would to small investors

The 1c Magenta has an asset value of four million pounds as per PWC report.
It seems the dissolution of Stanley Gibbons is in its last phase.
The whole mess has its own thread on stampboards.com in the Discuss stamps - thread. Highly entertaining at times...

It's a total scam. They issued 80,000 'shares' - strictly no more will be issued, better hurry, etc. etc.

Then - surprise! 80,000 NEW shares were just issued!

What a rug pull.

Can someone explain to a dummy like me how this is even legal? The issuance of an additional 80,000 shares completely undermines the value of the first 80,000 shares, doesn't it?

Is legal. They found another example, down the bottom of the sailors' sack, in amongst the Cape Triangulars.

In financial deals which go south, there is the term, "someone will be taking a haircut." Funny but is seems the sheep are the ones sheered, never the flock masters. Why the surprise here?

https://blog.showpiece.com/showpiec...lletin-board

From their blog - they are launching or at any rate continuing to allow owners to sell their shares. They appear to have actually sold the Darwin book at what appears to be a profit, which they are distributing to share holders.

I find it difficult to believe that the 1c magenta will be sellable for more than what they paid for it, in the near future. The biggest problem with it, is its condition. Oddly, the reverse of the stamp with all of the signatures is now more interesting than the front, which is rapidly disappearing.

I am (un)impressed with the technology of their web listing software. A simple text 'table' ? No-one could bother to write a little code for this business that owns all of these expensive items, and therefore must be rich ?

That is in line with the uneducated, magical thinking, held by many who have no money and want others to pay for their chosen needs which are beyond their reach or willingness to earn.

If I live in a $10,000,000.00 house upon which I have an $8,000,000.00 mortgage, who owns the house? For taxing and extraction of money by others, me, but is it not the bank who owns $8,000,000.00 worth of the house? Who really has the money (read rich) me or the bank?

They are clearly in the liquidation phase, trying to sell off the few big assets that they have.

I guess the only argument for possibly "buying" shares of this, is to buy one of the listings where the current holder is selling at a deep discount just to get out. The buyer would be hoping that Gibbons/showpiece could eventually sell the 1c magenta at a percentage loss (presumably) less bad than the loss the prior owner took on the share sale -- minus the 10% showpiece gets for commission just watching the shares go back and forth.

Now if showpiece at some point has to declare bankruptcy, then the shareholders could be in big trouble.

In short, why would one buy shares in this now, except as a crazy gamble....?
