Well, whaddayaknow, there is at least one internet site that can generate conversion tables for each year!

According to the lunar-Gregorian conversion calendar they generated for the Gregorian year 1906, the leap month for the lunar calendar was inserted after the 4th month. That means month #4 was doubled, and the 2nd month #4 is considered the leap month. (Assuming I correctly remembered what I was taught!)

That would indicate your cancel has the Gregorian date of 28May1906. Anybody feel free to correct me if I read my table incorrectly.

By Jove, it is done!

Litterally the date field says
- the sixth day
- of the additional (leap) month
- in the bing wu year, i.e. he fortythird year of a 60 year cycle. Bing is the heavenly stem, wu the earthly branch.

It should now be the moment that somebody devoutedly rings the gong.

KHJ, thanks a lot for your crucial advice! That was enlightening.
