In the inherited book but pretty bad shape. Could it be something else made to look like a two penny blue? The back even has a pencil writing maybe questioning the ID. Sorry for the iffy scan. I'm getting better. In this condition, is this sellable? Thanks JoJo.

It looks real to me, just not in very good condition. I don't see what else it could be. Looks too good to be a forgery or a similar but different stamp.

You could check for a small crown watermark. Why sell it? It's not worth much in that shape but at least you have one.

The question mark is probably over the plate number.

Yes, it is a two pence blue. However, it is the 1841-type, not the 1840-type. The 1840-type did not have a line below 'POSTAGE,' nor one above 'TWO PENCE.'
Anyone who would pay money for it must be pretty desperate to add one to his collection. Even as a space filler, it is a bad example.

Thanks! Not intending to keep this inherited collection. Figure I'll do what you suggest and give it to someone who wants to say they have one! Thanks again. Ed

Maybe a silly question,
How significant are the rays in the corners for identifying?
In general for the black, red and blue

They are helpful. They tend to suffer from broken rays that help identify the plate, together with the corner letters, and breaks and thickness of frame lines.

@Rod,

The cancellation could be Scottish. But in this state, I cannot be sure.

Rod,
you make a good point that very well could be a 5!

I don't know these at all, is 523 out of the question?
