In the inherited book but pretty bad shape. Could it be something else made to look like a two penny blue? The back even has a pencil writing maybe questioning the ID. Sorry for the iffy scan. I'm getting better. In this condition, is this sellable? Thanks JoJo.   |

It looks real to me, just not in very good condition. I don't see what else it could be. Looks too good to be a forgery or a similar but different stamp.
You could check for a small crown watermark. Why sell it? It's not worth much in that shape but at least you have one. |

Yes, it is a two pence blue. However, it is the 1841-type, not the 1840-type. The 1840-type did not have a line below 'POSTAGE,' nor one above 'TWO PENCE.'
Anyone who would pay money for it must be pretty desperate to add one to his collection. Even as a space filler, it is a bad example. |

How significant are the rays in the corners for identifying?

They are helpful. They tend to suffer from broken rays that help identify the plate, together with the corner letters, and breaks and thickness of frame lines. |

You are reading a 3  totally wrong, they are some of the watery ink bars Postmarks will make fools of us all. Indecipherable, as our friends suggest Rabbit or a bird?  |
