Quote: The gumming and perforating are well executed.
Bob, the 4pf Paul von Hindenberg as Genuine Carton paper, appears to have been serrated and without gum, according to Michel. Am I translating correctly?
Quote: MiNr. 454 auf Kartonpapier oWz. sowie mit Wz. Herz ist privat nachgezähntner und nachgummierter Ganzsachenausschnitt.
This translates roughly as:
Quote: MiNr. 454 on carton paper with and without heart watermark is a privately perforated and gummed postal stationery cut-out.
There is no indication in the catalog that this stamp is legitimately found on carton paper. Michel only notes it on coated paper, comb perf. 14:14 1/4.
I was researching the SMS Emden, and the word Spee was used. I have always pronounced it since childhood, as "Spay" (The Graf Spee) Wiki pronounces it Spee (as in We) Is that the preferred usage?
I've been trying to figure this out in Michel's Rollenmarken (roll stamps) Catalog, and I have to admit I'm a bit confused.
Michel contains tables that look like this.
Your stamps are MiNr 702 A (100 Pf) and 773 (70 Pf). The highlighted column is for "RA", meaning "Rollenfänge" (roll beginning), with subcategory of "als EZM", meaning "als Einzelmarke" (to single stamp). So this would appear to be the proper listing for your stamps. However, there are separate charts for the various colors of control numbers (with different prices), which doesn't make sense as the control number isn't visible on the single stamp leader. This chart is "a. schwarze Zählnummern" (black control number).
Thank you Postmaster. Splendid information. I understand your quandry. I looked at the strip against a light source, no numbers underneath. I cannot think of any situation other than perhaps some leaders did have numeral beginnings. The answer will turn up, if not I'll write to Michel.
