Collection with numerous gaps Built just about entirely from swaps. A few Tabs when found. Beginners collection, the ripped and torn and unloved are welcome here. And......a bad day at the office....

An unusual Postage Stamp NVI (No Value Indicated) Olive Branch Sc# 829 1982 "Sold at various prices" I wonder how accounting handled these receipts. One could be forgiven, thinking this a stamp "Tab" or label. |

Jewish Scouting. Possibly one of the very few countries on the planet, that has no postage stamp of a boy scout in uniform. |

I don't understand this Booklet Pane. Sc# 1074a 1991 I guess NVI (No Value indicated) (60 agarot) 5 x Tete-beche pairs. Yet scott reads 1074a had a value of 80 agarot when released (1994) How does that work? Why does Israel still refuse to place a year date on her stamps? Is that not an UPU directive? |

Both Sc# 829 1982 and Sc# 1074a 1991 are for domestic regular letters. About the first stamp, in 1980 the currency changed (10 Israeli Lira = 1 Shekel [IS]), and due to high inflation, in 1984 it changed again (1000 Shekel = 1 New Israeli Shekel [NIS]). I guess that's why they chose to issue an NVI. As for the second stamp, you can see on the left "INLAND LETTER". When it was issued it cost 55 Agorot (single = Agora, 55 Agorot = 0.55 NIS). You wrote that "Scott reads 1074a had a value of 80 agorot when released" and before that "60 Agorot". According to the Israel Philatelic Federation online catalog, it was issued in 1991 for 55 Agorot. (edited) Regarding lack of date, I believe it appears mainly on NVI, maybe intentionally - not wanting to limit the use of it, and printing them for several years. You can see some of these NVI here: http://israelphilately.org.il/searc...tmp=noinland |

vayolene - you're right. As you can see it doesn't have the name "ISRAEL" even in Hebrew. On top - "300 million lira" on the bottom - "Security bond 1969"
It was a mandatory bond, issued during the '60-'80.
(edited) If you want I can explain why the date is in letters. |

Thanks Rob Nice detailed response. I'll place your explanation adjacent to Sc# 1074a ... and thanks for the link (Oops! just went to home page, search using NVI did not reveal NVI stamps) |

Good morning (at least when I started typing). Rod, indeed it's hard to get results for NVI with the English website version. I've mailed them and await their response. Here's a link to a Hebrew search, You can make out the issuing date and value (New Israeli Shekel is #1513;"#1495; ). http://israelphilately.org.il/searc...%D7%99%D7%9CYou can also find NVI by searching for 0 denomination at StampWorld and the like. vayolene - in Judaism there is wide use of numerology. So the letters Taf Shin Khaf Tet are 400+300+20+9=729. Adding 7000, the total is 7729, meaning 7729 to the creation of the world. The 7000 is not mentioned in daily dates To translate from Jewish to Christian date add 1240. 729+1240=1969 BTW, that security bond stamp should be worth something: Even nominally, 300,000,000 Lira is 30,000 NIS, a little less than 10,000 $ |
