I have a small collection of Russian Zemstvos, and I have a 2004 catalogue by Gurevich, et al, which is pretty good - but it seems that most collectors refer to a catalogue by Karl Schmidt. My understanding is that his catalogue(s) were written in the 1930s and I have never seen one for sale. Yet so many dealers list their stamps using the Schmidt catalogue numbering.

Does anyone actually have one of these? Is there an online version available?

Thanks. I know about the Soloviev catalogue and I can get one, but am really looking for the Schmidt catalogues since they are so popular.

Thank you, Rogdcam - I am surprised there is so much literature on these in anything other than the Russian language. Good info!

The book provides a general classification and description of all Russian zemstvo stamps known at the time of publication. Collecting zemstvo stamps is one of the most interesting topics in Russian philately. It is commonly believed that collecting Russian zemstvo stamps was more popular abroad than in Russia. However, this is not entirely accurate. The popularity of collecting zemstvo stamps in the world can be attributed to a few Russian collectors. From the very beginning, zemstvo postage stamps attracted the attention of Russian stamp collectors. The diversity, originality of the design and shape, and colorfulness made them a desirable object in every collection. The interest in and demand for Russian zemstvo stamps became particularly noticeable in the early 1880s.
