I read it as just as a marketing ad using the usual hype language trying to make something appear as substantial and significant as possible but not providing many specifics. |

Guys ,there is a easy answer to this here are the facts .
Notice the binders ,this tells me this owner spend next to nothing for them ,they look like he went to Salvation Army or Goodwill to buy his supply of binders at 10 cent or 25 cents each [{to our overseas readers,he got them for free or paid very little as used binders} . Then the next fact that we know is he never spend any money for a label making machine ,he just used sticky labels for the subject of each binder .
So with these facts ,we can believe he used school notebook paper for pages, because computer blank paper came into being years later when he was already well into retirement .
So someone put nothing into his albums would make it hard to believe ,he was a serious buyer of better material . Yes agree this is quantity rather than quality. |

Rev ----- Experience ,lots of experience with cheap binders and with all those better binders that show up in large bulk lots and junk lots that come free to me in those bigger lots . Yes lots of experience ,throwing away 3 ring binders , those European binders with 20 or 30 rings , Scott Internationals Big Blue binders and every other album binder going into the trash . Slicing those black stock pages with glassine rows plus thousands of manila stock pages , cut them all up ,so they fit a mission mixture box . They were worth Nothing before ebay started . It is easy to look at the picture posted here and seeing those binders and understanding were they came from . Sorry but that was the world in the 1980's and 1990's . If it didn't fit into a box which cost $1.08 or $1.20 postage to mail it went into the trash because the next auctions will have more of the same . |

You threw them away, but they are solid and can work well for holding material if cared for properly. I too have handled hundreds of collections involving those types of binders, among others. I would not base what might be in them on that. Several other important points have been made here about the possible contents of the lot, but I would be careful about that one. I have seen some very good material in 50 or 60 or 70 year old manila stockbooks which might break at the touch. |

The collection is posted and has been broken up into separate units which you have to search for: https://stampauctionnetwork.com/V/V776.cfmEdit to Add: What a stunning collection. The depth is incredible. This should put to rest the notion that the collection was a bunch of face in cheap albums. The sale estimates for the Gatsby lots exceed one million dollars. As suspected the main issue here appears to be a dearth of certificates which is not to say that the material is not worthy of them. This should be a feeding frenzy sale. |

I have been looking through the Gatsby lots and associated PDF's and am gob smacked by the scope. From fancy cancels to revenue items to booklets to test stamps to PO Seals and onwards to even College stamps it is mind boggling. Wow, wow, wow. |

Some very nice stuff in that Gatsby collection ,somebody put a lot of time and money into it , but why place a picture out there that gave it a poor impression, looking at those bookcases full of mix binders |

Quote: any chance some of it is ex-Langs disguised as someone else? That's not the craziest thing I've read on SCF. Maybe they realize, at Kelleher, that they may have over-played the "LANGS (!!!)" card and they want us to think they have other sources for huge accumulations, which, of course, they do anyway. If it doesn't say "Langs", maybe we collectors won't look for the hidden problems too closely. |
