I heard a rumor that the proposed merger might cause some stamp shows to be ended. Anything on that possibility? |

Inasmuch as that is currently the only show in the NYC metro area, that would seem a very shortsighted idea. |

Quote: One assessment is how many of the members and guests are APS members? I would say under 20. Count me as 1. Quote: My analogy, as stated before, is one of Bentley hooking up with General Motors. One will gain esteem and one will definitely lose esteem. No need to point out who the loser is. You sure about that. Many consider General Motors Corporation a step up from VW which currently holds Bentley. |

Bentley, Lamborghini, Auto Union, Porsche not particularly an obscure motors manufacturer from an industrial medium-sized town.
And where it comes to technological development: big, gas guzzling motors are not very modern. |

Quote: You sure about that. Many consider General Motors Corporation a step up from VW which currently holds Bentley. Yup. For the obtuse or argumentative the point is that the APS brand is its most valuable asset and who they jump into bed with should be considered very carefully. Quote: And where it comes to technological development: big, gas guzzling motors are not very modern. The mentioned exotic/luxury brands have either gone electric or have announced forthcoming models that are non-ICE. So have all of the others. |

Quote: technological development: big, gas guzzling motors are not very modern Says one who lives in a country with no lithium mining and thus the massive environmental issues of same. Not to mention "modern" as used is a rather subjective term. Irrigation is thousands of years old but still is being used when it would be simpler to limit human lives to match the local carrying capacity of irrigated food production. same could be said about energy production. Clearly we humans are here now because our ancestors knew how to survive with out electricity, petroleum, medical science, gun powder, tools, iron and a host of other unnecessary but convenient items. Heck the fact I, we, collect stamps shows a measure of how high above subsistence level living is possible for some; not that living above subsistence is necessary to survive. Wish for things to be true and wishing for certain outcomes never happens as desired nor without unintended consequences. Likewise this potential merger seems reactive and not proactive. Proactive changes should save the APS/ASDA and similar groups. Reactive just slows the decline. Let see how this plan is laid out, reactive or proactive. |

Quote: Says one who lives in a country with no lithium mining and thus the massive environmental issues of same. I do not know what that has to do with GM and VW that your quote referred to, The environmental policy here is a mess. We are lagging most Western European countries on that. Having lithium mining would exacerbate the environmental issues. |

I assume the reduction of shows is primarily the inability to make a profit - lack of dealers. high table costs, venue availability/cost, Or, are there other criteria? I doubt APS would put a show in the NY/NJ metro due to cost.
Stamp collectors must not be like gun and knifer collectors as they pay high admission fees around here. |

Well, it has now been two plus days since the subject was raised, and still the only remarks made about it were by those of us on the outside......which leads me to think that there well might be some truth to those rumors. |

Are there any sources for attendance numbers at the various stamp shows? |
