I had a great pair of 'lethal' showguard tongs for 15+ years. Good weight and balance. Then one night a screw came out in my glasses. I was frustrated that night so in haste I used the tongs to really tighten that screw and there went their use.

I ordered another pair, but alas no longer the same weight, balance and 'fit'.
I went back to the old pair and with some effort got them usable again, at least they 'fit' better than the replacement. They really are 'lethal' now. They fell off table and stuck straight up in the laminate floor, so that it took effort to get them back.

I have at least 4 pair of tongs of various shapes and sizes through purchase, gifts, inherited, etc. but never found in a collection. But none of them match that original pair.

Yes, they have a myriad of uses, the old pointies. (Prinz Solingen)
I treat mine with respect, they have survived,
but have used them for
Straightening curled stamp hinges (constantly)
Removing a stamp chad, when it is just hanging on.
Slip them under a metal staple, down to the end, and twist, staple removed
Opening the mount strips on Hagners, to insert stamps
Dipping stamps into watermark fluid
Straightening curled stamps from soaking (gently stroke the back of the damp stamp)
Removing stamps from the scanner platen (But now I use my plastic perf guage)

Screws in glasses?
buy yourself a cheapie set of Jewellers screwdrivers circa $5

Great for spectacles, opening devices that hold button batteries
(eg my car remote)
Computer screws (although magnetised screwdrivers may be better)
