Making plans to bid on another set of Scott Internationals ,one of the auction firms has a nice large set of Internationals up for auction . Very few stamps with little chance of finding stamps I need ,but the whole set of albums look to be in better shape than the usual offerings . The cost of shipping will be a high percentage of the purchase price .

Here's a fun auction that is fun to look through the photos. Yes, there's common things in here of course, but some that I don't see too often in a general collection. One thing that stands out with this is that all the pages appear to be Minkus Specialty Pages. One can tell because they are one sided and there are numbered pages in the lower right hand corner .I wonder how many stamps were in this collection? https://www.ebay.com/itm/115743148561

That collection landoquakes linked to is quite nice, and the collector's work in adding his own hand-made pages to expand coverage was very neat. Never had seen Minkus specialized pages put together like that, quite impressive. Would definitely give a newer collector a nice foundation to build upon.

That ebay collection was lot 1555 in the November 2022 Dutch Country auction. It sold for $3100. Talk about a really good profit margin.

He sold it for $9000, almost tripling his money once the commission, shipping (if it was shipped) and taxes (if he paid any) are factored in and ebay gets its fees.

Interesting...

I noticed the listing had only one image in the Dutch Country auction. Looks like they were right on in the estimate. Based upon the ebay images, it looks to be a nice buy for the original Dutch Country buyer. I don't know, maybe it is over-priced for the ebay buyer. It seems to me that it is okay at $100+ per volume, maybe not so much at $250+ per volume. Not a bad gamble for a large collection like this.

Nothing like a quick (?) turnaround for a nice profit.

Thanks for the sleuthing.

John

"Maybe it is over-priced for the ebay buyer " It has been the trend for worldwide stamp collections at public auction firms that quote a number of the different stamps in the album to come close to the price of .10 cents per stamp .

So if the above collection contain 90,000 different stamps than it would be right in line with other sales . 90,000 stamps at 10 cent each would come in at $9,000 dollar . The other factors being the percentage of complete sets and the amount of better single stamps. Those pictures above shown a good number of both so I am surprised it didn't do better price wise .

But then again the seller made a nice buy and also made a nice fast sale by buying at 4 cents per stamp and selling at 10 cents per stamp . Please understand I really don't know the accurate count but 90,000 or 100,000 may be in the ball park for total number .

He paid out about $4100 for purchase ,then commissions and shipping to California which could be a little
higher .

Over all a nice purchase and a nice profit on the sale .

If you have the time ,go and look at the prices realized over the last few days and especially the auction results in todays auction at Schuyler Rumsey Auctions for country collections and the worldwide collections . Look where the estimates were and the final prices .

The other day I said $70 billion dollars left the banks in California ,they must of been waiting for the WESTPEX Show . Very strong prices in general for collections .
