Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

I have used hinges--ideally peeling off an old acquired feeder page and attaching to Steiner/Specialty page.

For my Greece album I obtained a lot of feeder stamps with good degree of coverage including several large Hermes Heads. I decided to mount all the stamps consistently and have pages for Crete, possessions etc. I value the look

I soaked or sweated off all the hinges where needed (many peeled off). I am trying to keep a log of any mint never hinged. For other albums I only hinged Mint Never Hinged.

I don't have time to replace albums with hinges but use clear mounts to add MNH which blend well.

I organize WW like Scott Specialty...not A-Z but all French Africa in one album. All Spain and Colonies in another plus All pre1940 future Warsaw Pact countries in another, etc. I use Steiner pages cut for 2-post Specialty Pages.

As a worldwide collector there is always something to improve and work on .

Up grading is a on going job ,that never ends .

Got a phone last night with someone who I did business with ,we are both worldwide collectors .

His concern was those stamps that catalog between $15.00 to $ 80.00 . We went into a hour long discussion of all the different aspect of these stamps and the problems that nobody has ever written about or ever posted about .

It is like a black hole in stamp collecting .

Hard to find those medium-value stamps. The truly cheap stuff is common, which is why it's cheap. A lot of the high-end stuff is easy to find, actually - not cheap, but not hard to find. I can get my hands on a Penny Black or a dollar Colombian any time, even if I have to shell out for it. It's profitable for dealers to keep those things in stock.

But I think the medium stuff is going to be hardest to find in the future as dealers retire, since those things are less profitable to keep in stock and margins are thinner. The demand isn't generally there as it is for more 'iconic' stamps, so many are content to let internet sellers, etc. handle those.

You are probably right. I think that the Scott catalogue is the issue. They don't update their prices for scarce issues.

I run into this for many sets from the 1950s to the 1970s. If one collects the world, you want the whole set. Russia, Hungary Romania, Czech all have nice sets of stamps and there is always one that is a little harder to get. Not always the highest value either. Typically not a big catalog stamp, but if you want that one stamp, most dealers will only sell the entire set. There are hundreds of these!

First ---Thanks for bring up some important points to this problem all worldwide collectors are finding more difficult to address and it is also changing from methods of the past . Years ago stamp dealers build huge inventories for their customers and they {the dealers} took WANT LIST from customers .
The world of stamp collecting has change, but I have not seen anything in the philatelic press or on the chat boards where this subject has come up and gave it little thought .

So where do you find the stamps that you need to fill those spots on your 90% completed album page . This problem comes in two ways .
First --The stamp you need but it catalogs at less than $2.00 , No seller is going to sell it cheap by the time the seller figure ebay fees and postage plus the time to list it and time to mail it out . But the buyer is trying for a low percentage of catalog . With all that why end up selling it ,just throw it into a mixture box .Nobody is happy .

Second --- For a worldwide collector and even a country collector the most expensive stamps to buy right now are the middle price range stamps percentage wise to catalog price . The cheap stamps come to you between 2 cent to 10 cent each and no problem finding them .Buying mixtures , albums and even red boxes full of stamps with catalogs values up to $10.00 catalog can be found at most large auctions and your paying 2 to 10 cents each in large lots .
Right now you can buy $80.00 to $1,000 stamps at auctions from 1/10 catalog up to 1/3 catalog and you will run out of money well before those firms run out of stamps .

Now we get to those stamps that your going to pay the most for base on catalog value . Those are the stamps between $15.00 to $80.00 , it is like every dealers wants a high percentage of catalog or even full catalog for that missing stamp ,this holds thru on ebay too !
