Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

New addition to my forgery collection .

I think there are two different things that attract my attention first is both stamps are real {not a fake } . To me the one stamp was cleaned or washed that shows in the faded / dull printing . The stamps may of been sent thru the mail .
The second item is those two black bars canceled on each stamp . I believe those were placed after the fact but the stamps were already canceled at the post office .

I will write it up after I read what others say .

It looks like the 2 black bars are part of a duplex cancel. Except for the shade difference the piece looks good.

The future tends to be hard to predict, but we can look at trends. Remember Linn's stamp market graph? I would post an example here, but I think I'm blocked from doing so. I used to love looking at it and cheered when it went down in the hope I could afford more stamps. :) We have to remember to not be country-centric here too. There is an entire mall in China that deals in nothing but stamps. Cheap stamps will always be cheap stamps. Herman Herst Jr. commented about this dealing with stamps in the 1940s. Rarities will likely always command a premium. It's the middle items, not cheap and not rare (think Penny Blacks, US #1) and such that will be interesting to see what happens. Someone really can put together a collection of 100,000 different cheap stamps (maybe more!) and they can all be inexpensive ones, but it might not be worth much when it comes time to sell it.

While the piece with the two 10-cent Columbians would go into my Oddities collection, I don't think there is anything that was tampered with.

It is possible that the stamp on the left had a cleaned cancel, but without any evidence, I'd say that the two stamps were simply from two different sheets printed at different times. Perhaps the ink is a different shade, or perhaps one was overinked, underinked, or printed with a different amount of moisture in the paper. The stamp on the right was added to the envelope first, and the stamp on the left (with the straight edge on the top) was probably the first stamp torn from a new, different sheet.

For the two bold lines at the top of the duplex cancel, I think that is due to thick, uneven contents in the envelope. For 20 cents postage, we already know that the letter was heavy. Notice also how the W and Y and top of the O in New York look heavy and boldface compared to the other letters and numbers at the bottom of the CDS cancel. Whatever papers or items in the envelope were probably thicker at the top and caused an uneven impression of the handstamp cancel.

The dealers buy from the auction houses and then resell to retail. If you buy at wholesale then, you either get your money back or you make some or at worst don't take a bath as long as you know what your doing.

I subscribe to United Philatelic Auctions newsletter (from the UK) and Andrew's musings are fun to read. In one of the latest messages he says: "Gone are the days of bulk collecting for the sake of filling an album." He is probably talking about the thousands of ordinary folks that used to collect stamps and fill world albums, but folks in this thread think bulk collecting is alive and well ;) Interesting way to put it though... "bulk collecting"

Retail is still buying stamps as shown by sold listings on ebay. The difference long term is that many of the better to rare stamps will be heading East instead of West as the really young collectors are mostly in Asia. Young people today in the West buy worthless cryptos and digital tokens or are obsessed with video games.
