Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

While building a Worldwide Collection ,sometimes you run across album pages that are well done and you just can't add anything to it . So what I do is just leave it intact .

Shermae ---- Dr. Cheng Chang has a very impressive Worldwide Collection , I use it often, to check against my collection .

His collection has some strong points and other items lacking . It would take a experience philatelist to point out the many difference between the two collections . I believe we both have different collecting styles and different goals . It would take me over a hour to write up what I think all the difference are .

Over all it is nice collection he posted online ,I thank him for that .

Worked on Hungary stamps late into the night ,woke up and needed to change focus this morning before going for a run to McDonalds for a ice coffee . Found this set still in a envelope so printed the page and mounted them .

Every stamp collector sooner or later picks up material outside of their main interest or as in my case past the time period that I stop making pages for my collection . I usually stop at 1970 as my cut off for collecting worldwide .

When this set came in a large purchase and decide to make a album page and mount it , so my thing is if it looks nice mount it and just add the page .

I like that ethos "if it looks nice mount it and just add the page."

Overload a album page ........I don't think about filling just blank spaces on album pages to achieve a goal . So I had to find a better way to describe what I am going for ,so the only word I could come up with is --- WORLDWIDE SPECIALIZED .

floortrader I really have enjoyed this thread - you have accomplished what I have aspired to do and, if I win the lottery some day, maybe will be able to replicate.

Besides Scott, do you have a lot of other stamp catalogues that you refer to when building your collection. I have kind of fallen down the rabbit hole regarding varietes (perf/shade/watermark/plate flaws etc) so I have been building up a huge library of specialized catalogues, and was just curious if you find yourself looking far beyond Scott as you build your collection?

My main difference with you is that I don't use printed pages, but rather Vario pages, to house my collections. Mainly this is because I want to try and include spaces for variant listed in catalogues beyond Scott along with the main stamps Scott list, and pre-printed pages like Steiner in the end just feel too "limiting" to me because of the lack of spaces for variants (especially when you get into national specialized catalogues where in some ways the sky is the limit when it comes to variants - such as Maury for France, Karamitsos for Greece, Isfila for Turkey, JSCA for Japan, Zagorskiy for Russia and so on and so forth)

To answer one of your questions ,yes, I do use foreign catalogs . Here is a sample of something that was done a few years ago .

Another question that comes up is are you just a worldwide collector ,yes but I wanted that collection that nobody has , "That nobody has " means stuff not normally found in all the hundreds of WW collections that I viewed at stamp dealers and the many stamp auction firms where I sat on viewing days over many years and in many different cities .

I wanted a WOW factor without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars . My goal was to go after the stuff that is not there in those mount collections .

If any of you have been following the discussion on the increases in price of worldwide collections and my posting on this chat board about the climb in prices per stamp . You will be surprise with today's prices for groups of album pages from a impressive set of Minkus worldwide collection ,these album pages sold as groups like "a-b" countries or pages "r-s " group of countries , these sold very well .

Sad to see some of the huge inventory of Sergio Sismondo ,did not reach the prices I thought they would ,mostly selling around the open bid and little price upward to their estimates .

I got the impression that all the Minkus lots had opening bids but other than me there weren't a lot of other bidders. I won 6 and will report how I did after I see them. Normally I would rather buy the entire collection but I plan on moving shortly and didn't want to stock up with a lot of albums so getting a few worked well.

Ken --- Congratulations on getting 6 of them ,pricing was all over the place from a low of $230.00 to a high of $875.00 on two . I counted 22 lots between lot 1366 to 1433 for a total price realized of $11,130.00 {i could of missed one or two lots in my totals } .

my point was that it is a decent price for such a large WW collection ,my guess and it is only a guess is that it had 160,000 to 180,000 stamps depending on the cut-off points .

It would of been nice to see it as one lot at auction as you say .....maybe with a $12,000 opening bid .

I remember years ago when lots like this had two bidding sessions ,first as broken up sections and then a final bid offer as complete and went to the greater price of the two .
