Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

landoquakes, I know what you are saying. It's very tough to get higher numbers of different.

My current count is at 143,000. But I'm estimating I'm only 68% complete in the counting. So, a close total number may be in 200,000 range to the 1965-1975 era.

Kiloware, world collections nor most regional collections don't help much without getting too many duplicates and still stay in my budget. Country collections and sets is where I am now in purchases.

But still having fun.

Big congrats Thinkstamp on reaching that number! Do you have any counting tips? I too seek out country collections. There's a dealer around here that has a great idea. He breaks up country collections and sells them in manila file folders for $5 for a folder. Depending on the country it can be 5 to 20 pages. This way one can get just the span of time in a collection they are looking for and it won't break the bank.

landoquakes, I use a spreadsheet to count for me. Once I came up with the format, it became easy, and the tally is always up to date. I only tally a country when I buy something for that country. It has taken from just a few minutes to as much as a couple hours to do 1 country. It's a slow process to get to everything, but I'm in no hurry. I feel count is right and I'll have a printable listing at selling time and a printable want list.

A side benefit is it's a review of my collection, which has let me find varieties, etc., I didn't know I had. I look on it as a part of cataloging a purchase.

I'm too much of an exacting person to be satisfied with a general count of say, counting stamps in one album out of every 6 and multiply it out. That method is ok, but then after I've added stamps awhile, I'd have to recount all those albums again.

I have something different for anyone wanting to try.
Around the world in 80 pages
I made a display for my club (half display 80 pages), the heading describes it well.
Using the Scott catalogue 2009 I counted up how many countries there were and decided on sub headings, then measured an A4 page and managed to get 6 entries on each page. This means I ended up with 474 different listings each with 2 stamps that have some relevance to the history of the particular part of the world either its rulers or its history.
Great way to see just how many countries you have or do not have.
I have uploaded one of the pages.
I have also uploaded part of my country list for checking my progress.
This topic makes for some fun searching, remember do not pick BIG stamps as there is not enough room on a A4.

Just wanted to stop in and tell everybody ,I have moved on . To spend more time on my stamp collection ,the 330,000 total is now a distant memory . Also spending more of my time working to achieve the Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu . .Working on all the collections that I purchased at recent Kelleher auctions . With the recent run up in Disney stock will give me the ability to purchase more stamps in the next few weeks,I got out of my positions I posted about a few months ago here . TAKE CARE .....Paul

Hello all. I have really enjoyed this thread spent the last day reading every post and really enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the pictures from floortrader and others of their stamps. I am a somewhat of a beginner on WW and I'm trying to figure out the best way to move forward. I have an 85% collection of USA to early 90s in Minuteman Albums but I'm trying to figure out the best way to move forward to display and catalogue my WW. I have probably 50k WW stamps, mostly in glassines and stock cards separated by country/area. I also have 2 of the older scott international albums and other albums with many thousands of stamps mint and used. I have been collecting since 4 years old and turn 40 in three months so I feel like a youngster because I know many in our hobby are much older and therefore much more advanced and experienced. I don't know anyone personally who collects except my father. I've seen floortraders collection shelves and Dr. Changs, I use Changs a lot as a reference. I dream someday to have a collection like this. Hopefully I have another 40 years or so in my lifetime to work on it. I'm curious is there anyone or any of you out there who would like to take someone like me under your wing to help me with advice and help me figure out the best way to move forward so I can get all my WW catalogued and displayed in a nice system? Anyone attend Rasdale today? Very good prices. Unlike the catalogues, Rasdale estimates were mostly hit or they underestimated. Nice bidding action today on some of the lots. More great collections handed off to the next generation of stamp collectors.

If floortrader is going to spend more time with his stamp collection, does that mean future updates will be in store? Agree that Dr. Chen has a superb collection. Some forgeries but comprehensive and superb nonetheless.

I hope you still check in from time to time. Like others have said, you have definitely added value to the forum and this is one of my favorite threads here. Well-seasoned world collectors have quite a bit of valuable insight. If I read your last post correctly you now have more than 330K different?

KyleB, you have come to the right place to learn more. It looks like you are well on your way to becoming a world collector. Many start out the same way. Once you maxed out the affordable US stamps, its fun to branch out. One thing that helps is to have the loose leaf version of the Scott International Album so you can insert sheets for those stamps that have no spaces in the album. I started out with the part 1 and moved up in numbers from there and always bought used albums, preferably ones with stamps already in them.

This is where I'm at...I started collecting Mexico and Canada during the last 6 months and will more than likely branch out to Central America and the Caribbean. I would add that it feels like coming full circle to when I started collecting the world as a 10-year-old.
