Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

Wonderful pages once again Floortrader.

I for one am a big fan of Steiner pages and have approximately 140 binders worth. Maybe once I get my scanner going again I will post a few.

Total agree also on the satisfaction of completing a page with full sets.

Dianne ---- I will enjoy seeing your pages . Never get tired seeing what others are working on . I believe it does positive things for all the new collectors and new readers to understand the hobby and understand the people who regular post on this chatboard .

I still like pages crammed with stamps. Not sure why. They appealed to me when I was 9, and they appeal to me "when I'm 64."

SHERMAE --The appeal of pages crammed with stamps , is not just you there must of been many more collectors being active today during the collections sale at Kelleher Stamp Auctions today . They were willing to out bid each other and pay up for those huge collections of many albums which were part of a worldwide collection on a book shelve .

I think those large multi-album collections at today's auction had to hit some record for prices paid . They had a 4 volume Scott International Part 1 ,estimated at 3,000 to 5,000 hit a purchase price of $12,000.

I am surprised at the strong bidding while watching this on my computer .

All I got to say is there are some annoying underbidders out there.

Please explain what is a annoying underbidder .

My issue with underbidders is they come up to me during the checkout line at the end of the auction . They say one of two things . The most common I get is the statement from them "That I overpaid for that lot . " Another thing that is said to me, if I want to sell them the lot for what I just won the lot for , hey -- I haven't paid for it yet .

floortrader - stocks are at an all-time high. People cashed out and bought stamps I guess.

An annoying underbidder is the person that pushed me to bid $10K for that lot.

The stock market had nothing to do with it, but the bidding on ebay has been very very good lately.

Congratulations Ken on your win , hard for me to understand paying that much for a Part 1 , unless it had a lot of extra pages to add extra material.

I thought the most interesting thing was how many items in General Collections section went unsold. On several items the opening bid on SAN was $3500, Kelliher opened the bids at $5000 and got no bids and the item was passed and is available. Obviously Kelliher is setting reserves well above opening bids and got no takers. I don't remember seeing that before.

Ken ---- I seen that on a few lots ,I didn't question it , because I was also watching a stock quote screen ,with a late rally in the stock market most of my attention was there . I wasn't buying collections or accumulations because my interest was in buying complete sets from the A & D inventory that Kelleher is holding .

I see this time period as a opportunity to pick up material from Kelleher that is too low for their regular auctions but getting material at auction prices which is much less than bourses or mail order dealers ,this would be in the $75.00 to $300.00 range in the Scott catalog .

It's an interesting thing this 330,000 collection. I should add up where I am now. Probably 70,000 -100,000. But I have decided to just collect select countries around the world in Dr. Chen depth and leave the rest to the future owner of my collection.

Can you clarify "Dr. Chen depth" comment. I am aware of his website and scans of pages but not familiar with his depth (year, cost ?)

The "depth" is pretty much Scott National/Speciality pages, I think, rather than anything more specialised..

Angore - There are some considerations with stamp collecting. What standard do you want to collect to. In other words you can go as deep or shallow as you want.
Dr. Chen stated that he would collect 90% of all stamps from classic to 1990 - I think for each country. For myself I don't know about 1990, but I will collect 90% of a countries stamps within a given era. Floortrader in some way has set a standard for huge comprehensive WW collections. 330,000 is a goal that people can try to strive for. Most collectors do not have the resources or fortitude to do what they have done. But given the resources and commitment I do have, I think I could do it for select countries around the world. At first I just wanted a few stamps from every country, but I have found when browsing collections that my favorite collections are ones that have depth.
