Dropping the minimum of watermark fluid into the tray first, then the stamp second, can be a big help. The stamp stays flat, and you see the initial flash as the paper adsorbs the fluid.
100% agree that glass trays are better than plastic... smoother, flatter, fewer scratches, require less fluid.
