A friend of mine has the postcard shown above and is seeking more information. Can anyone provide insight into its potential use or what the chops/cancels/marks are on the back?

That's a beautiful card!

The inscription on the picture side is Jinchû tayori "News from the front" or "News from the camp", followed by spaces for the date: year, month, day.

On the message side, the inscription along the top is Yûbin hagaki "Post card". The rectangle at upper left reads Gunji yûbin "Military mail". The inscription in the purple rectangle is Ken-etsu sumi "Examined by censor", so the bottom part of the rectangle is presumably where the censor would put his mark.
