Without being completely definitive...my stamp is not a 1048a...I discovered through a Spanish forum that this type of stamp, in addition to the dark chocolate or dark violet color...should have the following characteristics:
1- On the shield, in front of the eagle's claw, inside the column, a small dot should not appear.
3- in the value box, the line under the upper serif of the 5 must be parallel to it and not make a curve.
This means, drawing type IV and numeral type TII (perhaps the most important point). I hope this information can be useful!!

I had been looking for this "rare" 1950 stamp to add to my collection. It, recently, came up at an auction that had to be postponed. This gave me an opportunity to, succesfully, bid for it.

The stamp on the left is Edifil 1048, printed in chestnut lilac issued in 1949. The stamp on the right is Edifil 1048A, a special printing in dark lilac and issued in 1950 as part of the Spanish stamp centenary set that had a face value of 74.75 pesetas. The set with Edifil 1048A, subsequently, was sold at the "round" face value of 75 pesetas.

Note that the "rare" 1048A is not discernable by having a more reddish appearance. That is the chestnut lilac. It has a less reddish appearance.

The Edifil (2023) listing:

I shall go one better. Just in case anyone still doubts, this came with the righthand side block:

Having two - even very - different shades does not mean you the two listed shades.

Looking at the certificate again, I notice that it suggest this stamp was not catalogued until at least 11 May 2008. There are two indications for this. First of all, it mentions the Edifil catalogue number as 1048 variedad, and not as 1048A. Secondly, the text states it is:

Quote:
..., no reseńado en los catálogos al uso, ...

That it is Edifil 1048A is clear from the reference to the dark lilac colour and it being an additional value for rounding the face value of the series for the Centenary of the Spanish Stamp of 12 October 1950, which corresponds with the Edifil listing.

Does anyone have a Spanish catalogue issued before 11 May 2008 that lists or mentions this variety?
