Initially, I was a bit sceptical about Mowbrays of NZ having this vignette on their advertising, but it seems, Mowbrays were once Trading as Stanley Gibbons, which explains the stamp, as Gibbons sold it in London some time ago. The Cinderella : The Stamp

Wow that stamp is pretty amazing. What does the "A" in front of the numbers mean? |

Cheers Tony, thanks for that, I cannot substantiate, but I think I overheard yesterday, that Mowbrays has been sold in the last couple of days, I didn't catch who to.

I thought it was the other way around -- that Mowbray was involved in the purchase of Southeby's Australia? Or maybe there is something even more recent that I missed? |

The stamp sold by Gibbons and the one on the Mowbrays cinderella are two different stamps. This one was sold by Mowbray Collectables in November 2009. Four copies in all are believed to exist, of which only two have been on the market. This stamp was offered as Lot 727 in Mowbray's Auction of 7 November 2009, was estimated at N$25,000 and sold for N$27,000. |

Ahh, sorry, I thought you were still talking about Mowbray Collectables. I guess you are now actually talking about Mowbrays Australia (what used to be Gibbons Australia). Mowbrays Australia has been purchased by the Velvet Collectables Group. Is that what you were referring to, Rod? |

Could be khj, Jeepers, you are well informed :) I'll confirm next month at my stamp meeting.
Plateflaw : yep, they probably used a file image. Gee that is a very nice stamp, thanks for posting such a great image.
When there are only 4 in existence, a chewed tooth makes no difference :)
Hmm, $10,000 in 1993 to $27,000 in 2009 |

Why is this stamp so rare? Was it issued and then recalled, or what. Just curious.--Ron |

The Royal Visit to New Zealand was cancelled in 1949 due to the King's ailing health. Consequently all the stamps were supposed to have been burnt. |
