Philatele, I agree with you that the collection is an unfortunate tragedy. I am totally into placing each stamp squarely in its little frame in an album page. Any perceptible rotation away from that ruins the effect of stamp collecting perfection.

That being said, I must admit that I'm attracted to the Japanese album page that you showed. The stamps are randomly arranged; not in arrangement by set and value. Instead it has an unintended artistic value, a collage. The colors, the individual stamp designs, and the postmarks all seem to blend into a sort of stamp collecting artwork. It exemplifies the appreciation of multiple designs, values, and colors. Suitable for framing, I'd say.

It just needs a bit of work to remove the overlapping stamps, carefully chip out the few bits of writing with a pin, a glass cover (maybe even slightly frosted glass), an unassuming type of frame, and you've got yourself a piece of folk art.

@lightly_unhinged, you bring up a fascinating point. The aesthetics of these pages are intriguing. I'm not going to trash the album. I haven't decided if it's worth the struggle to remove from the pages, but from an artistic perspective, you are correct. The works of the pages are fascinating.

There was a question on this on Frajola's site today. www.rfrajola.com ,
under "board". Don't know if this might help you, but you may want to read it.

My mother was an avid collector back in the 30s and 40s. When she died, her collection went to my sister and yup, about half were taped into place. Try as we might, nothing worked until we tried gin. No, it didn't remove the tape either, but after consuming a few shots, we really didn't care. (nothing was of any great value anyway)

Gin... hmmm.... I'm more of a tequila drinker. I'll give it a shot (or two)!
