Hi ccool. Yes I fell asleep. my computer fell asleep too, it is so old.

I have a slow connection (dial-up) so any facebook or youtube videos load veeery slooowly on my computer. I started to watch the first video and then gave up half way through.

I liked it and wish I could just download it and then I could watch it without the internet.

I was waiting until I got to the library (I thought I would get there today but did not) and watch them on their very fast connection. It will be within the next couple of days that I will go.

The first one is nice, lots of detail and nice music too. I do not understand French too well but the trains are nice.

I live in Halifax, NS. On the way to the library branch I go to, on the buses, I go by a container pier and long train classification yard, along side the Bedford Basin, that also has the main line running along beside the road, so I see the Halifax to Montreal VIA passenger train once in a while. It is too bad we can't see into the containers to see what the freight is. I suppose customs would like to do that too.

Most freight is containers now but there are other interesting cars or loads, like armored cars or tanks or grain cars or lumber.

I did take some photos years ago of the old round house near here. They have torn most of it down now. I was able to drive around well at that time. Not so much now.

I will let you know when I do watch them.

Now we have the Adult People On Stamps that I have (people and animals are later).

From the Puzzler Collection.

I just noticed that most of them have chosen the silver ribbon border except the two Picture Postage collectors shown (upp right). The previous babies and children stamps were more evenly distributed between the two border types.

Does anyone know if Canada Post / Canadian Bank Note Co will allow a picture of a train on a stamp? They will have the CN or VIA logos or signs (or Quebec Central from ccool) so perhaps the copyright concern will be in effect?

Maybe I will email them myself and let you all know.

Ah, it's wonderful to be in love . . .

. . . and maybe in Paris ? . . .

Both from the Puzzler Collection.

The Postal Code on the envelope (I show only a 'cut square' is from Stanley Creek, in northern Ontario. The pic looks like they are in a balloon perhaps or up high somewhere.

Hi !

Don't take any chance with CN, it's not the kiind of company to help anybody...

When you use logo you must always ask for the right to be official.

Thanks !

Puzzler, probably not, but I guess it will depend how predominant the logo is. Remember the flag problems? Well as it turns out I saw a picture postage design on ebay that was accepted and has small background British Columbia flag.

...yet this was rejected:

My email to Picture Postage:

Hello,

I was wondering if it is allowed to have a picture of a train or locomotive. This would probably have the company name on it. From CN (Canadian National) or VIA passenger trains, or Quebec Central railroad or others?

If I do indeed need a copyright permission from the copyright owner for this type of picture (taken by me) then what form of this is permissible to you? I mean, how would I show to you that I do have permission? Do you need a written letter on company letterhead or will an email from the company be OK?

Good day,

Yes, you can use a train or locomotive, but you will need the permission from the copyright owner.

You can send us a letter from the company or the company can send us a e-mail.

Bee See,

That stamp, the OES stamp, is for the Order of the Eastern Star in BC and the Yukon. This is a large worldwide fraternal organization that men and women can join and help do good things for others. (From their web site)

Web site: http://www.bcgrandchapter.com/

Maybe the use of the flags had something to do with their allowing them to be on there. The Flag etiquette is proper, that is, they are displayed properly, and for a good cause, etc. I am guessing.

By the way, I would like to get that stamp also (don't have it yet) but this seller ( skbds ) is starting them all at $2.99 each, which is a bit high to let me buy a lot, so I have to be selective. Some nice ones though.

Speaking of which . . .

One of the older stamps.

Perhaps Canada Post can have a choice of borders, to be allowed on the newer (2004-on) stamps. They are printed by different printers but perhaps Canada Post hold the copyright on the designs?

There are lots of topics besides trains though. Although I want to do trains and wish they were not so picky.

Nice sunset. Looks to me to be in the South Pacific somewhere?

From the Puzzler Collection.

Or a nice map. This is a really neat stamp. I like it every time I look at it. Nice colours.

Animals or Fauna stamps, a favorite.
Cats and Kittens (and a person crept in there also).
Cats, Felin, Feline, Gatos, Chat, Katse, Katze, Katz, Katzen,
The four bottom stamps I have sent the pictures myself to be made. I should make a cat on a train stamp.

From the Puzzler Collection.

The stamps I made on the bottom have been mailed to myself and I have placed them on the envelope so that the cancel would leave the date portion on the stamp. I like that batter than even the postal code with these spray-on ink-jet type of cancels. I know from this when I used it and roughly when it was made.

You need to have an envelope already canceled and use that as a guide for stamp placement. Takes some experimentation.

Unfortunately, sometimes, not all, the postal employee decides that the stamp is placed a bit too far away from where it 'should be', that it won't get canceled by the machine if let go through, and takes the roller cancel to the envelope.

Although, the fellow here in Halifax does seem to spare most of the stamp when he sees it is a personalized stamp. Kudos for that. Thank you Canada Post.

Stamp with Dogs and Puppies on them, oh, and a person or two also.

The top left is a Bee See -made stamp. I haven't made any dog stamps yet. There are lots of beautiful dogs around though.

From the Puzzler Collection.

The most popular topics to date that I have seen are babies and children, dogs, cats, other animals, then a mixture of everything else.

Of course, at the moment anyway, there is no gathered together reference source for these, like an online catalogue or paper catalogue, so I am making a guess at this. Wish there was.

I think Bee See mentioned that the Austria personalized stamps have such a resource provided by Austria Post.

What's up Canada Post? Don't be out-done by Austria!

Even just a general idea of what's on the stamp, people, animal, building, sign, etc. Sorted by the printing sheet number probably. Date it was printed, quantity printed, style (silver ribbon or photo frame).

That would make these oh so much more collectible as then the public would see an 'official' statement about them and collectors would have a gauge to guide their collecting interests with. Monthly online updates could be published. Don't worry about sorting it all out. That's what us obsessed collectors are for. Use us, please!

Thematic catalogues could include them in amongst their 'regular' stamps so people would wish to collect more Canada. There are tons of topical colectors out there.

Puff, puff . . .well, maybe that was a bit much, yes? Hmmm. I needed to say it though. I feel better now anyway. Perhaps I have cracked the can open on the idea. They say that an idea usually appears at more than one place at the same time, when it does first appear. Here's hoping.

Maybe someone (me) should be making an online catalogue of these stamps with the known information.

Bee See, you mentioned you had an idea about this or was it a different idea?
