The stamp at right is Scott #2792(2000Feb). The plant is a Guelder Rose, and I believe what you are looking at is the white flower stage, not white berries. I'm not very good with the SG catalog, but I'll see if I can find it. I've never seen the stamp at left. I'll have to do some hunting around. k |

OK, found the stamp at left. It is the high value stamp in the set and was issued a month after the rest of the set. Scott #2724(1997Oct22) SG #2932 k |

Gee khj, I genuflect. I'll be soon joining with Spock in your fan club. Note: quite a high value 4s GBP Tomb of Imam (Ayotollah) Khomeini, He promised that "no one should remain homeless in this country," In Perth, Western Australia, where I live, currently on any given night I think I read there are 14,000 homeless. |

Well, they sure do look like white berries to me. Leave it to mother nature to make flower buds that look like berries, suggestive coconuts and square-trunked trees. |

How political is Scott? Antipodeans hear that Cuba was excluded, correct?

Cuba was excluded but now appears on my 2008 Scott catalogs. Iran is listed as since people are unable to import these stamps legally into the US there can be no value, but gives the listing which is confusing. |

Given that Scott I assume are used more frequently in Canada and places in the world where either S&G and others aren't used often, I wonder how they ever find values for these stamps. I also wonder if Iran has its own form of a stamp catalog. |

Wow, thats quite interesting. Trying to look up where the 2009 catalog might be, only found various late 80's ones from online. |

It was not that Scott was political, but it was simply adhering to US embargo laws that omitted countries like North Vietnam & North Korea as well. |

Very nice stamps - I've not seen either before. I think Scott has got the description wrong for #2558. They are probably berries of some Viburnum species or cultivar (but I've no idea which one) but I'm pretty sure it's not Viburnum opulus, the guelder rose, which has a much broader and more complex leaf than this. Here are some pictures of the guelder rose thanks to Google: http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&...oq=&gs_rfai= |

Quote: How political is Scott? Antipodeans hear that Cuba was excluded, correct? It generally follows according to American trade embargoes, I think. I can never keep track of which countries are illegal for Americans to deal with - Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Myanmar, Zimbabwe, I can't keep it all straight. You can sort it out here, if you're so inclined. http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/enfo...ac/programs/Scott generally lists these stamps from embargoed countries but doesn't price them as of the date of embargo. Much preferable to the old policy, I used to get annoyed as a younger pup - I could never find a listing for the old South African stamps back in the days of apartheid because Scott wouldn't list them. As a catalogue collector (once I get 100 of something, I'm buying the catalogue! ha ha), of course I've already had to buy the Farahbakhsh 2009 Iran catalogue. Rodney, you can add the following to your yellow text - left stamp is Farahbakhsh #2784, used value 500 riyals, right stamp is Farahbakhsh #2857, used value 100 riyals. Yes, 1 US cent ... I need to find a good Iranian source for stamps, their minimum catalogue value is 0.1 US cents. Coming up next for my catalogue collection, another book you can't legally buy in the States - fines of up to $1 million and prison terms of up to 20 years if you try! It's already on its way from a seller in Manitoba, of all places. http://www.north-korea-books.com/se...-2006/DetailRyan |
