More likely a vacuum. It worked for an Inverted Jenny, why not his stamps.

Not sure I understand the distain being shown for these two stamps. Just like the British Guiana 1c magenta, these are one-of-a-kind specimens. No other stamps exist that match these two unique collectibles.

Run over by a train is not a new category nor does it produce such items. I have had now for decades an envelope with a damage in handling marking where the mail bag fell off and under the moving train. Now the cover at first glance look unharmed. But when held to the light at a proper angle there is a diagonal smooth bright light reflecting strip on the cover. It cause if from where the letter way crushed between the steel of the train wheel and the steel of the track.
