When the lights first went on at the Hip sites, there was a lot of discussion (errr arguing) about whether automatic feedback (positive feedback generated by the site if a buyer doesn't provide any following a set time period).

Now ebay is adding this with the only difference being they require tracking whereas Hip doesn't:

"What's changing:
Automated feedback
Most transactions go smoothly, with sellers providing great service, but that hasn't always been reflected in buyer feedback. Starting September 3, 2025, you'll automatically receive feedback for successful transactions that meet all of these criteria:

You shipped the order with tracking and it arrived on time
The buyer hasn't left feedback
The buyer hasn't reported any issues
If a buyer decides to leave feedback, we'll replace our automated message with their message. If the buyer returns the item or reports an issue, we'll remove our automated feedback.

More flexible handling of mixed feedback
We're also improving how mixed feedback affects your profile. Starting this October, when you ask us to remove feedback and a buyer's comment contains both removable and non-removable content, we'll ask them to edit the removable part. If the buyer revises it, we'll publish their feedback. If they don't, the feedback won't appear on your profile at all. We'll notify you whenever we ask a buyer to revise their comment.

See our full feedback policy to learn more."

This is so dishonest even for a feedback system with little value or meaning in the first place.

The only reason a seller would want feedback amended or removed is if it was not positive. Other than obviously malicious feedback there should be no tinkering with a buyer's comments. Period.

Let feedback viewers look at the overall total feedback picture to make an informed decision.

The end game is that ebay wants a rosy picture at all costs.

Amazon has been tinkering as well. Now the reviews automatically show five-star reviews instead of most recent backwards. It used to be that it was by default most recent and let the number of stars fall where they will. You now must click on the ratings which brings up five-star ratings only. To see all reviews, you have to click on most recent first and then select all stars. It makes it less efficient in the hope that people don't make the effort or those that don't pay attention just see shining comments.

**** - This feedback has been automatically amended. rogdcam receives five stars for glowing excellence and service.

* - I give rogdcam one star. Poor experience! For shame

I just tested the SCF Member Feedback System and it appears to be operating up to industry standards. Excellent!
