@alub If this person is looking for a hundred or two, I can tell you that I might be interested. No shipping needed as I would drive out and pick it up. But, I do need to have a rough idea of what it looks like, just a general pic of the whole set of volumes and some sample insides. Just like to have an idea of what I might be getting into.

NicolasC, you wrote:

I'm curious. What does 20 volumes mean? Are these Scott blue binders? Or are they 1-inch binders? Are we talking 50,000 or 100,000 stamps? I agree some pics would be nice. I live in NY, but my wife probably wouldn't let me buy another large collection.

And from the OP in the OP:

...all are on nice homemade pages. thousands of stamps.

I would be shocked if anything other than:
Think no stamp albums by an album company, just basic 3 ring binders, filled with regular sheets of paper on which stamps, many CTO, and notes reside. Likely 2" binders but 1" possible, 3" unlikely. "thousands of stamps" as noted is a far cry from 50,000 or 100,000 thousand.

EDIT: You both have your SCF messaging turned on, send him an email.

I'll try to get the owner to provide some photos, and I'll post them as soon as they're available.

In the meantime, I'm reaching out to see what countries people would like to see photos of. There's quite a lot from the U.S. (which is what I'm most interested in myself) and a good amount from Canada, since those were a focus of his collection.

Both the U.S. and Canadian material goes back into the 1800s, but from what I've seen so far, nothing in the Canada section appears to catalog for more than a few dollars—though Canadian material isn't my strongest area, so I may have missed something.

Most of the rest of the stamps are post-1940, and there are no Penny Blacks or other obvious high-value classics. There are also plenty of stamps from smaller countries

Have your friend cosign with a power ebay seller. Stuff like this sells all day on ebay. So many cheap stamp collections selling for way more than they are worth.

DrewM that is a pity about the newspaper collection. Even if the college didn't need them I think it was shortsighted to throw them all away. I would have at least used them for a hallway display. Every college has those hallways. Depending on what it was, I would have picked some good ones to showcase and maybe rotate them. I run a hallway display myself at my college and experiment with what college-age kids look at. There is something about those old newspapers that catch their eye. Few even get the chance to see a newspaper these days. Sometimes libraries are the worst archivists! alub, see if you can get him to take some photos! 1000 words! ;)

I want to clear up one misconception though. If these were scott big blues and the pages were in great shape like new, there could be value in the pages. Most big blues however, are in sad sad shape.
