Today I was reading "Nassau Street" by Herman Herst Jr. and it reminded me of a Graf Zeppelin postcard I have. The card was sent by a dealer from Nassau Street.

I've posted it here in the past because I enjoy the Graf Zeppelin mail and having the 239 flown is pretty neat and unique I feel.

Today I actually tried to do some research to see if I could find any 30c Colombian's on cover of any date.
Well I've failed. I struggled to use Siegel search and using google turned up nothing.

So I'm wondering if anyone has or has seen or can find examples of on cover Scott #239?

On the SAN archives I found about a dozen 239s on cover, solo use and mixed use. Most were from the 1893-94 period with the latest I saw dated 1898. Hard to say if you have the latest use but you do have a very late use. Nice one, even if philatelic.

In 1936 the catalog value was $4.25, which is about $96 today. So it was real money, especially during the depression. So it's unlikely to have been used much. I would suspect that the example used here is damaged, probably thin.

One problem with this late use topic is that later use 239 covers 37 years or more after issue would not get much in the way of auction listing by the big names, nor even the small names.

One place to search would be the FDCs of the 1992 reissues where the 1893s were affixed as a combo-cover. Good use for face fine, back damaged 1893 stamps.

Rev, the value in 1928, when this stamp was used, was about half of 1936 but obviously the point about likely condition issues making this not a decent mint stamp remain. Of course at this stage in its life that no longer matters to me.
It shows as a sound used stamp on this post card.

Dollar value is not the point (never is for the 'stampcrow') and I wouldn't even misuse the term rarity here.
Maybe its unique-ish.
Christopher Columbus making a return trip across the Atlantic but in an airship.
Berger & Co. of Nassau Street creating this piece.

I will never budget the money for dollar value Zeppelin stamps on Graf Zeppelin covers.
This is a fun piece for the same price as any typically franked postcard on this flight.

I'm hoping to stumble upon other Columbians flown on the Graf Zeppelin.., so every couple of years I'll bring it up.
