jorgesurcl, you seem to be the only one posting here lately.

Mind if I join you ?

Here are some Austrian stamps printed near the end of the Schilling
era which more or less coincided with the end of engraved stamps
for that country.
They still had excellent engravers and the print quality was
top notch but the Euro did them in.

Tsuneo Kasano engraved both banknotes and postage stamps at the Japanese Printing Bureau. Here are images of three semi-postal (charity) stamps depicting Olympic sports, designed by various Japanese artists, engraved by Tsuneo Kasano, and issued by Japan to benefit funds to support the 1964 Summer Olympics, held in Tokyo.

jorgesurcl & lithograving & DC3 - With plenty more to come!

Joseph Rajewicz (1919-2010) was a Polish-born illustrator and engraver of postage stamps and medals who emigrated to France in the early 1960s. He began engraving stamps for France in the mid-1980s, and ultimately produced 17 of them for that country. Here are images of three examples of Joseph Rajewicz's design and engraving skills on stamps issued by France, plus some other relevant images.

- nethryk

Two EUROPA stamps designed and engraved by Joseph Rajewicz, and issued on April 27, 1985, Scott Nos. 1974 & 1975, Y&T Nos. 2366 & 2367:

Adam de la Halle (1237?–1288?), a French-born trouvère, poet and musician, plus a miniature of him from a 13th century musical codex.

Darius Milhaud (1892-1974), a French composer and teacher, plus a photo of Milhaud, c. 1926.

Baron Augustin-Louis Cauchy (1789-1857), a French mathematician and a pioneer of analysis, designed by Huguette Sainson, and issued on November 10, 1989, Scott No. 2176, Y&T No. 2610, plus a portrait of Cauchy, c. 1901 which was probably a model for this stamp's design.

I'm new here and this is my first reply on this particular thread. Haven't had time yet to enjoy all 130+ pages but will do so in the coming days!
I only do have a question which cannot wait 'til then: I read on page 118 that member 'Canadian' mentioned that the German engraver Egon Falz has died. I am actually writing a column on the man and can't find any confirmation of this. Is it true and if so, does anyone know in which year he died?
Thanks!
Adrian

Hi Adrian and welcome to SCF and this Engravers thread.

Let me just say that I've enjoyed reading the thread Which engravers / engraved stamps do you most admire? on Stamp magazine
and also your blog.

As far as Egon Falz is concerned canadian hasn't been
posting for a few months so perhaps send him an email
here and see if he can answer your questions.

There really isn't much at all on the internet about German
or Austrian engravers.

Here is a bit I found on a German stamp forum where Falz is mentioned
and was presumably still alive but that was in 2007.

gestochen seit translates as was an engraver since

gest.(orben) = died

Hi lithograving and thanks for coming back to me so quickly. Yes, it's very hard to find any info on these engravers though I have enough on Falz at the moment to make it into a good story, I think. And it's really why I started my own site/blog, to gather as much info as possible on all these (nearly) forgotten artists.
I'll send canadian an email and will see what happens.
I'll soon be adding some of my collection here as well, hoping that you will all like it.
